OK, everyone. I REALLY need your help. At our company we have about 5 Sony Vaios. Two of them are having the same trouble--touchpad's jumping around/acting irregularly. They've tried to blame it on XP, so we've done the whole restore thing--no luck. We've downloaded stuff off the internet, no luck. We've uninstalled/re-installed stuff--no luck. We've even sent one in for hardware replacement. That worked fine for 2 weeks and now it's messing up AGAIN!!!

I have been on the phone for a total of 4 hours with these people and no one's been ANY HELP. I have also tried many different 800 numbers.

Has anyone had this same problem? Does anyone know of any SONY phone numbers where I could contact people who REALLY know what they're doing? Anyone work for SONY and know about VAIOs???? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks.

Sarah

Try lowering the sensitivity and accelleration in the settings.

Sometimes the touchpads just go bad and need to be replaced, I have seen it on Dell and Compaqs too. Swap out the palmrest/touchpad and it works again.

:( I found myself getting addicted and thought that could become very unhealthy. ;) That's why I haven't been posting. I'm almost always snooping around, though.

This is a known issue with Vaios...sucks, the touchpads just go bad. Supposedly they go bad because of the heat given off by the lappy. Sorry, RMA is your only hope. :(

PS Welcome back
PPS Wrong forum. :p

Mines worked fine. What model do you have?

My teachers one worked fine also. Same with my other teacher.

huh...ironic that this thread popped back up. I have a client's 1 month old Vaio V505BX sitting on my desk right now going through the 7-cd recovery system

. It's already been RMA'd once for the touchpad and they won't take it back again until it's in factory-fresh condition and the problem still occurs. Why won't they just admit that the Alps touchpads they use are pieces of crap??? This is the third client's Vaio I've worked on with this problem. Luckily, my old 505 superslim's touchpad is still fine!

agreed, IBM replaced my keyboard 2x (both times my fault) and the screen after two years (it was defective). My sister had a dell and they replaced the entire outer casing cuz the hinges for the screen where cracking.

I like the small sony viaos but I was sacred away by their questionable quality and support. Got a Thinkpad X31 to replace my old T20

I use a Sony VAIO GRX550 laptop as my main system, and I beat the living crap out of it. I purchased it at Best Buy. So far I've had it serviced twice, once for a faulty screen, the second for some internal connections becoming unsoldered.

I occasionally have problems with my touchpad... but I believe that the issue is software driven. If I use Alt+Tab, or another keyboard command, and then immediately use the touchpad again, it works perfectly. However, if I use the external mouse, and then go to the touchpad, it jumps around like a scared cat. Weird.

I would definitely buy a new Dell laptop if I had the money.
