Sony Vaio Laptops

I purchased a Sony vaio sz650,

it comes with so much crapware i would love to reformat, and would not have a problem doing so.
but then it occurred to me that part of the harddrive is partitioned off to store the software the laptop came with.

i guess my question is: is it ohkay if i reformat the harddrive, because i would love a fresh install of windows vista.
cause i had looked up on their support/driver website, and i see most of the crap that i need there.

thanks for your input, if i am unclear please specify.

I've always put stand alone copies of XP on my laptops. I see your machine came with Vista Business. As long as you feel confident obtaining all the drivers, I'm voting "Go for it".
As a side note, this review also notes
Con: Bloatware is excessive.

I view the meat axe approach to system cleanup as really unnecessary. Why not uninstall the crap and then clean up the registry, etc?

I would vote to try the cleanup first, and then do the nuke job as a last resort if the system did not work to your satisfaction. Sony Vaios are highly proprietary, and unless they sent you a copy of the Vista DVD, it could be a rough road.

If the Sony recovery OS is on a hidden partition, it would be wise to burn that to a DVD before nuking.
