Sony VAIO GRX7001 / Pentium-M 4 1.8GHz / 256MB DDR / 30GB / CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Drive / 16.1" TFT UXGA / Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition Notebook PC

Tiger Direct is offering this new Sony Laptop. Is this a good deal? Sounds too good to be true. If it is then it is smoking hot given the prices of widescreen laptops. I know that the video card is a little weak and it doesn't come with a wireless network card but not a deal killer for me.
What's the consensus on Tiger as a vendor?
Any replies greatly appreciated.

Too me, it does sound like a hot deal. Does anyone know if this is the same processor that goes in to the Centrino laptops or am I confusing this proc with something else?

this is actually using a 1.8 ghz pentium 4m, which isn't exactly what i would consider cutting edge anymore. the battery life will probably be pretty dismal compared to what's now availabe, as the pentium 4m draws much more power than the pentium m, along the 16.1" screen. not to mention it's from tigerdirect.

just a heads up.

it's big, but if you want a big screen, this is nice. I live in a small aprtment right now for school and i love my 15.7 in. gateway laptop. Sure, its heavy (a tad bit over 8 pounds), but i really never lug it around unless i bring it to class, which is not likely. Plus it so much better than a desktop when i am moving out!

edit: I actually looked at the deal just now. For what it comes with, yeah. its not really that hot, plus it's from Tiger Direct.

Sony were good but now they've come out with these heavy crappy stuff that sucks. V505 is a cute little thing but has so many problems.

Any one have any experience with this laptop, it claims to had reslotion 1600x1200. My experience with Sony's laptop is they claim to had that high but once you set to a high reslotion the screen won't display the entire screen you had to shift around.

The only thing going for it is the UXGA, which I am sure is beautiful. Though I'm loath to recommend a dell, if all you want is a cheap desktop replacement with a UXGA scren, you can configure a dell 5150 with only a 15" screen but still with a UXGA screen and better components for under 1300.

Sony is a nice brand is it? I use to had a slim sony laptop, and they are great if you don't need to use the floppy or cd-rom. Carrying the floppy and cd-rom is that slim at all.

I also look at the weight when looking for a laptop.

Also, when looking at equipment and finding out that tigerdirect offers the "lowest" price, I always go with the next lowest price and stay away from Tigerdirect. It's become a rule of thumb for me.

Sony got a better than average rating for reliability from Consumer Reports . . . ahead of such notables as Dell. I think really matters what product you are buying from Tiger Direct.

At school I see people carry the over 10 lbs desktop replacement laptop around (the ones with a number keys too). I can't even stand my 6lbs laptop how can people do it......
