I was looking at getting this laptop as a desktop replacement to take with me places that have a ac-outlet, Ijust dont know much about the computer. Some people say that Sony's are good and others would disagree. I will be using this as a mobile gaming laptop, and watchind DVD's, Listening to music, word processing (like I said its going to be a desktop replacement). It has a Geforce FX 5600 Go, on it and its a directX 9.0 Card has anyone heard anything about this card, and if its good or bad? Any input is appreciated. Thank You

I was looking at this notebook earlier this evening. Only negatives for me: Gets about 1.5 hours battery life and it's not widescreen. A SD card reader would be nice instead of the memory stick reader, but we know that will never happen on a Sony. You can go play with it at Circuit City if you have one near by. It's still on my shortlist if my current notebook does not work out.

I was looking at it last month. It's a decent price, seems nice in the store (though I'd like lower resolution), and the GPU is excellent (it's the best GPU currently shipping-the Radeon 9600 might or might not be better, but I haven't seen it any anything).

Problem is, I've been told by a huge number of people I trust that Sony's laptops are junk. One person who's opinion I value particularly has been given 3 of them over the past 3 years (for work), and all have been unstable messes.

Also, it's apperently hard to install an OS other than what comes on it-or even to do a clean install without all the junk they preinstall. Just check their site-no drivers at all listed, not even for the OS it comes with.

So...I don't know. It seems nice in person. I generally love Sony hardware, so it's really tempting...but I'm hearing really, really awful stuff about their laptops. Toshiba, Apple, and IBM keep getting mentioned as being better (and PC Mag did just pick them as the 3 best, so...).
