I will give my kids some credit because they have spilled drinks and such on the keyboard. The problem is the dvd drive will not read disks and has not been able to for the past 6 months. As of late, the pc card does not even power on when inserted into the pc slot. The built-in 802.11b will work for weeks and then suddenly stop working. I cannot remove and reinstall. Usually leaving the computer off for a while can "fix" the problem.

It will not boot from either an external cd or usb drive and I need to restore from the recovery disks.

Will it work if I copy the 6 recovery cd's to the hard drive first (via external cd drive) and then try running it from there?

Any other suggestions besides shooting it with my 9mm?

Hmm....let me think.

Shoot it with the 9mm.

This is hard. I don't see how you can copy the recovery CD's to the hard drive first, and then reinstall from there. If no USB ports work to install from those, it looks like you just may be SOL.

The only other option I have is to buy a copy of XP, copy the CD over to the hard drive, and then install from that directory.

I didn't feel like spending $60 just to reinstall the OS.
