Sony unveils $700 PSX (PS2 + media center)

Don't those TIVOs have a $50 MIR on them as well? For that amount of money I'd rather get a PS2 and a TIVO, or maybe a laptop

Yeah, $700 is WAY too much.

I just got two TiVo's for $99 each and PS2's are $200 now.

Tivo is $99
Tivo subscription is also $12.95 per month or $299 lifetime. ($498)
Upgraded hard drive - 160GB let's say $99 and you void your warranty ($597)
PS2 is $200 ($797)
Network adapter is $50 ($847)
Standalone DVD Recorder is $300 ($1147)

Total = $1147

Sony Wins.

Keep in mind that I have a nagging suspicion that Sony WILL charge for the DVR capability.

And anyone who believes in the "24x dubbing" meaning "24x DVD Burning" is a dumbass.
They're referring to ripping speed. Burning will probably use the OEM 4x DVDR that sony is so well known for.

One word comes to mind: BOMB.

If they try and release it in North America with a price range anywhere in the same ballpark as $700 it will absolutely bomb. They must know that. Just because it's cheaper than all the various parts sold separately doesn't mean much unless you're actually interested in all of those and want to buy them all at the same time. This is a ridiculous cost for a decked out three year old (4 next year) console.

Sounds like it doesn't include TiVo functionality. If so - there is no way in hell I'm buying that. If however, it does I wouldn't mind plunking $400 or so for that baby 🙂
