The Sony TV we have gives off static sometimes... and sometimes it doesn't. It could go for 10 minutes with static then you hear it die down and you don't have any static. Then in another 5 minutes it can be back. There is no pattern or anything. Anybody know anything about this? My hypothesis is that maybe the solder connections to the built in TV speakers went bad, but what do I know

interference maybe? i know this can happen with monitors and speakers. you have anything heavy on the same line? does it do it when the ac kicks on or when using the dryer/other large appliance?

You actually USE the speakers in your TV? Blech. ;)

Seriously, it does sound like a shoddy connection to the speakers. Take it in to your local repair shop, and have them have a look at it.

Also, it may be your cable TV itself. Before I switched to DBS, I would have periods when something of a certain color came on screen, the sound would get all fuzzy and crackly.
