In a report on Business Week, market researches estimate that Sony will ship over 200 million PlayStation 3 consoles in five years, citing sales of 12 million consoles in the first year of release. This estimate is double the number of PS2s that have shipped in the same time period, placing the bar incredibly high for the next-gen console.

So what do you guys think on the launch, will it be similar or worse than xbox 360, meaning will there be a mass shortage ? demand?

I kind of hope so because i want to Price gouge on ebay, planning to buy 4 ? 6 maybe more depending o what I can afford. I foresee the demand being a lot higher than it was for the xbox 360, even with everyone purchasing this for xmas prezzies 😀

Price gouging is a bit unethical but business is business! I think if the scenario is right (High demand, low supply) I could possibly make double the initial cost, ohh how my evil mind works. :evil:

umm where are you getting your info from? ps3 will be unveiled at tgs in jan for apr launch in US and JP.

They havent said any info about UK launch but looking at past launches im guessing 4-8 weeks after US and JP. And sony already said US and JP launch will only be within a week of each other. And considering the xbox360 launch did not go so well at all in JP I dont think sony has anything to worry about.
 
To be honest I'm much more interested in the Nintendo Revolution. The 360 and PS3 are all hype. At least the Nintendo has lots of GAMES! Screw the pretty graphics, my PC does that. No if only they would remake Symphony of the Night on the PS3!

I already have an Xbox 360 and trust me the graphics are very pretty, especially on my 42 inch high def plasma 😀

I have to say i expect more from the PS3.

I think the Nintendo looks cool, but the controller however is very much NOT COOL!

Isn't that what they said about the Nintendo Gamecube in comparison to the X-Box and PS2? Lets see... five years later, who's on the bottom of the sales charts?

I think it's clear even now to say that Sony and Microsoft will stay at #1 and #2.

Yeah but what's this about the Revolution letting you play all the old Nintendo games for free? If that's true it's a killer feature IMO. More important than insane graphics.

The controller also looks quite good dispite RichUK's very strange opinion of it (I'm not sure how he can have an opinion of it seeing as he has very likely never used one). All of the people who have tried it have had great things to say about it.

I haven?t used the controller, pure opinionated, however i would not like to attempt to use that controller either, no that i have a lack of motor skills, i just don?t see it being that easy. I'll have to give it try when the in shop demos appear.

That controller looks cool IMO. Kinda like an iPod to play videogames with. Looks like the craziest TV remote I've ever seen, 'cept you can pwn people with it in HL2. 😀

I suppose I am asking the same thing of you... I don't recall seeing any official April release date. Just speculation. The most reliable info that I've seen is similar to this FAQ from IGN.com... (Which makes a fall release in the US more likely.)
When is the system launching?
Sony is currently quoting a Spring 2006 launch. Whether this is the timeframe for the Japanese launch only, the North American launch or a worldwide release is unknown. Sony's past products have been launched in Japan first, North America roughly six months later and then Europe and the rest of the world sometime thereafter.

I've only heard that they would charge for the games... I would be very shocked if they were for free. Is there any concrete info either way?

That 42" HD Plasma really isn't HD though 😛

It doesn't show the horizontal 1280 in full 😛

Oh wait that was sega that did a release on 9/9/99..

I think I might like to get the PS3, and maybe the new Nintendo. I had no interest in the Xbox, and have no interest in the xbox360.. the hardware hasn't pulled me in and the games certainly don't interest me.
