Whoa, RossDUDE! Tami and I just bought this last Sunday for $2518 at Circuit City. It finally came today and after trying it out by watching the US OPEN in HD, we watched our first "real" HD series tonight - yes, you guessed it, Prison Break. And boy, does this TV rock!!!! I can't get over it. But I digress.

Thanks for the heads up that the price dropped big time. I'm going to call Circuit City tomorrow first thing and get the price match. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't, as per the policy on their website. Thanks again! And thanks for any advice about this TV you may have given Tami previously. Enjoy your Toshiba, I'm sure it is awesome too.

Mike,

Is that a one time use 10% off coupon?

I'm not interested in the coupon, just curious :)

shame they don't have it instock at my CC, I would go in and take a look at it... still on the hedge... I like the blacks of my DLP, but I like something that doesn't take up much space and is 1080p

My first HDTV was a Westinghouse 32" LCD which I sold and bought the Toshiba DLP.

After owning both sets, I think vivid colors are more important than solid blacks. The Toshiba DLP does an amazing job with both, especially SD content. Supposedly my higher end Cinema Series handles blacks better than the lower end 50HM66 which I almost purchased.

Since your local CC doesn't carry the Sony SXRD, maybe your local BB does? Take a look at the BB price

...nice. BB has this on clearance for $2,800 something.

When is the new xbr2 coming out? Gonna wait for it to come out so the xbr1 will go down in price some more. :p

Clearance? the A2000 models are brand new. they were justed released. they won't be clearancing them. Sell them cheaper than MSRP but that's about it. You're probably thinking of last years models.

as for the xbr2, in september/october
Yep, I was talking abt the Sony KDS-R60XBR1...Text

I'm waiting for this Sony KDS-R60XBR2 SXRD HDTV in the show room...Text :)

I cannot stand the speakers on the side. Regardless of how bad ass an HDTV is, if it has side speakers that kills the appeal.

That's a good point, Rossman... and if you're lucky enough to get them to honor the 30% off coupon this could be a burning deal from BB YMMV of course.

Still I'm hesitant to jump to LCD/LCoS. I don't like dead pixels or whatnot and I like the color depth of DLP's. Vivid color = high contrast ratio right? I can get Samsung DLP's with 1080p and 10000:1 contrast... hmmm..... I think I'll just wait for prices to drop on the DLPS.

On a side not, those new ones you guys linked to... over a hundred pounds = over a hundred thumbs down by me.

Depending on how long you're willing to wait, I'd wait for LED DLP's with HDMI 1.3

Do your research as this is a major purchase.

HDMI 1.3 =1080p right? If so then they're already out. There's at least a Samsung Model out.. the Samsung HL-S5679W DLP

Haven't looked to see how many more... but they seem to be at around $4k right now. I guess I'll wait a bit longer and see how they affect the price of others or drop closer to my range... they look nice tho.

The following was ripped from FW, originally posted by HappyScrappyHeroPup

HDMI 1.3 has no value for this TV.

HDMI 1.3 adds three abilities:
1. "deep color". This includes a larger gamut of colors. These colors cannot be reproduced with an RGB system. This TV uses a RGB projection system, so it couldn't reproduce them anyway. Despite what this may sound like, this feature is nearly useless, there will be very little deep color content (no ATSC-based content, meaning nothing from over-the-air digital TV, cable or satellite), and you won't notice the difference very often anyway. Little deep color content will even exist anyway, since HDTV cameras capture in RGB and thus cannot even create deep color content.
2. Higher bandwidth (230MHz instead of 165MHZ?). This is strictly to support deep color, since deep color has more color channels and thus needs more bandwidth (55MHz/color channel) to produce the same numer of pixels. 165MHz (as this TV has) is enough to do 1080P at 60fs in RGB, which is all this TV can do anyway.
3. Multi-channel (8 channel) non-compressed audio. Again, since this TV has only 3 speakers in it anyway, this would be pointless.

Honestly, just disregard HDMI 1.3. It's essentially pointless.

To fathandbag, the XBR2s add i.Link (Firewire) inputs, and also have a brighter bulb (meaning brighter picture) in some models.

Sony LCD projection TVs are very nice. I've purchased both a 50" plasma and a 50" Sony Grand WEGA (3 LCD) this year. I did not want the SONY, I wanted another plasma, but the bevels on the plasma are too big and it wouldn't the "TV nook" in our family room. So I bought the SONY for $1499 from Best Buy. What amazed me was how good the picture was with the SONY LCD projector. To my surprise, it was better than the plasma TV. I can only imagine how good the LCoS TVs at 1080p must look. Wow!

The built in HiDef tuner in the Sony TV's are very good. I was amazed how good it made my cheap analog cable look. You'd have to pay a few hundred dollars to get an equivalent tuner separately.

kmmatney,

Thanks for your post and just to clarify, this is NOT an LCD rear projection TV. Just in case others get confused.

I am curious what is this 30% off coupon you speak of? I plan on jumping to DirectTV and my wonderful wife gave me the go ahead on the NFL Sunday ticket. I noticed best buy has an in store deal about $400 back (when you spend $200) if you buy an HD TV with DirectTV. I was looking for coupons to make this deal even sweeter, since this is basically the TV I have been looking for. Also does BB price match?

Anyone know how to put this together for maximum saving?

Sony 50" LCoS 1080p -> DirectTV with NFL Sunday Ticket -> Coupons/Price matching

there's gotta be a way to come out way ahead here, I'm just not seeing it.

What a killer deal! This is about what I paid for my 720p DLP set last fall. The SXRD sets provide, IMO, the highest image quality of anything on the market.

Wow, I could really use a new TV. I am still in the dark ages with my 25" sets.

If the coupon worked, WOW, this would be a great deal. Maybe I'll have to swing over to CC today and take a look at it.

[/quote] A lot of peeps have voiced the same marked aversion towards the side speakers. For me, it's not much of a biggie...I can overlook its "hideous feature" for the killer image quality it offers.;)
