Right, because in your little cute cuddly world of emotional rulings legal binding contracts "dont count" when its the little guy because that just "isnt fair" and doesnt "feel right", is that it?

Maybe you should stop typing and brush op on "contract law".

I'll make a deal- I'll brush up on contract law, and you open a dictionary and learn proper grammar, okay? :D

I wouldn't be disappointed if the only products they continued to make were cameras, laptops (loved my Vaio S) and XBR/SXRD tv's. Anything else can be had at better prices from better brands.

In non-formal correspondence (As in, you aint my boss so eff off :p ) I dont bother with spelling and little things like that funky half moon that goes between the s at the end of the word.

In other words, I dont put a whole lot of time into making it pretty so you can parade it around the boardroom and show everyone.

;)

Hey, I aint trying to side on the corporation here. I LIKE the little guy, I LIKE good prices, I LIKE getting things otherwise unavailable in my area.

I'm not trying to be the bad guy here, and I agree theres too much litigation anymore. But sometimes its the only avenue we have because its just considered bad form to send 10 pain ninjas into the other companys office and kill everyone.

But again, at the end of the day the simple fact is Lik-Sang was in violation of signed contracts and legal obligations. It appears from Amused article that Sony had tried previously to stop Lik-Sang.

What do all the Sony bashers recommend? Just throw out contracty law altogether?

Yeah, it sucks but Lik-Sang chose thier bed and now they have to lie in it.

Funny how no one questions such an obviously biased and one sided story and passes judgement without hearing Sony's side of the story.

...and as usual, you side with the giant evil corporation...

:::sigh:::

No, Aharami, I side with objectivity, facts and reality. Something the story in the OP is totally lacking.

It is the OP and subsequent lynch mob that displays their bias by automatically assuming Sony is evil, simply because they are a large corporation. Not to mention ignoring contractual laws and trade laws only when it suits them.

i KNOW sony is evil because my computer, like many other, was infected with their rootkit software. I bought a CD and I wanted to burn it to mp3 cuz I wanted to put it in my carputer...but i couldnt because of their rootkit. And I had to jump thru hoops to remove their software from my computer

Irrelevant to this issue.

It is however relevent to the issue of hating Sony and their business practices, and in fact THAT issue MIGHT actually border onto a legal issue.

But thats outside the scope of this thread. ;)

Sony Responds
Accuses retailer of "sour grapes"

In a statement issued to GamesIndustry.biz, Sony has denied any responsibility for the closure of Lik-Sang - accusing the online retailer of "sour grapes".

The statement begins by observing that Sony Computer Entertainment has successfully sued Pacific Game Technology, which uses Lik-Sang as one of its trading names, for infringing intellectual property rights.

"Lik-Sang did not contest this case (i.e. they did not turn up and therefore incurred no legal costs). We have been awarded substantial costs against Lik-Sang which have not been paid," the statement claims.

"We would therefore strongly deny that our actions have had anything to do with this website closing (we assume the legal entity is still trading), and would suggest that this release is sour grapes on behalf of Lik-Sang which is aimed to belittle Sony Computer Entertainment and the British judicial system that found against them."

Earlier today, Lik-Sang announced it was going out of business, citing a series of lawsuits filed by Sony as the reason for the closure. The retailer also alleged that several SCE executives purchased import PSP hardware and software on its website.

Sony responded, "The purchasing of PSP consoles by SCE employees would be for investigatory purposes. We would also like to express our surprise at a company releasing personal information about its consumers, as this is contrary to data protection principles around the world."

Exactly. Like lik-sang cant handle a little lawsuit. if you can't handle being sued then you don't deserve to be in business in the first place. If anyone here took the time to read the original article on lik-sang, they are closing down because they are afraid of other companies doing the same thing to them as sony has. There are so many mindless sony haters and its so easy to hate sony right now, that you've all fell right into liksangs trap.

I could probly just make sh!t up about sony and get thousands of people to pour on the hate instantly.

Yeah, all those MS television sets and Nintendo camcorders are going to put Sony out of business. Not to mention all the music groups that MS has signed to their label and all the motion pictures that Nintendo releases. Oh yeah, and all the microchips that MS fabricates and all the digital cameras that Nintendo produces.

Wait...

Sony isn't going anywhere. Not any time soon.

However, I do not agree with the way they handled the situation. Perhaps they could have told Lik-Sang that would not tolerate any more shipments of imported PSP's. That would have been the better way to deal with the problem.
I think it's very likely that Sony did send a C&D order first.

Even if they didn't though, do you really think that Lik-Sang would have listened? Sony's retailer agreement already says that they will not tolerate such actions. Lik-Sang was notified that Sony would prosecute for such actions when they purchased the machines from Sony. I guarantee you that in order to buy the machines from Sony as a retailer you have to agree not to sell the machines outside of their specified region.

The company never hired any lawyers. They never showed up in court to contest the charges. Total legal fees paid by Lik-Sang = $0.00.

If a cost of $0.00 bankrupted them, then they had other problems.

I think it was the potential cost of having to pay multiple lawyers to fight multiple lawsuits in multiple countries that did them in. Why even bother to fight that when the cost would put you under even if you win.

I guess they don't want business from importers. I spent well over a $1000 on importing ps2 games, 95% that were never released here. That' just money out of their pocket. If I can't import games then I won't even bother with the ps3.

Why break contract when you know you you can get sued for it? If they honestly thought that they could escape being sued by Sony for this, they were too dumb to be allowed to stay in business anyway.

There will always be importers. Most of them aren't dumb enough to pull what liksang has though. Fact is if your business gets big enough people will come after you. If you're not prepared for it you got noone to blame but yourself.
