I can't seem to find other floorstanders for around the same price as the sony SS-MF550H.

EDIT: and if anyone has experience with the sonys, please share. I can't seem to find a good review of them either.

Do you need floorstanders?

Sony is not looked highly upon when it comes to speakers, I would recommend saving up for some speakers that are worth keeping

I'd rather have floorstanders because they look better, but nice bookshelf speakers are OK too. I'm trying to stay in the $100 - $150 range for a pair.

If you could stretch it to $200 you can get a pretty decent set of JBL bookshelves or even possibly a Klipsch Bookshelf/floorstander

What if I can't stretch it to $200? I was looking at $100, but I think I can stretch it to $150, that's what the above post is about.

Honestly?

I wouldn't buy speakers then yet. You could consider making your own but that would likely cost not much less in the end.

I know the Sony's I have read about on AVS were not mentioned in a good way. Honestly, I have never heard them But a full floorstander for $100....can't be THAT great....

yea, I am not even sure I could build a floorstander for less than $100...the wood+caps+inductors+drivers would EASILY top that.

and a quick google brings up this thread

seems these speakers are a good choice for the price?

Does anyone have any experience with these or the sonys I mentioned above?

well, They look better than the Sony's....but its impossible to tell the quality of build by just looking at a picture online. Also, there is no way for you to know if you will like the sound of them. Lastly, you should have a good amp if you are going to driving those at nice volumes, Low sensitivities + low impedence = one hell of a load for your amp.
