Sony releases their 8X DVD burner!

Sony has just released their 8X DVD burner, the DRU-530A. From the specs, it doesn't look any better than Plextor's offering but we'll see when the reviews come out. If you've GOT to have this drive NOW, Fry's already has it. ;)

There is a comparison of 8 drives here that is good but it missed the TDK Indi 8X DVD+/-RW Drive, Model AID+840 which is now available in Staples B&M. I wonder if the TDK is just a re-badged drive ?

Desptie the Sony having a 8mb cache the Plexor (2mb) does seem to perform better

The DRU-530A has 2MB cache.

I'll think I'll wait for the Dual Layer burners.

Shaving off 7 min on my DVD+ burns (not many) ain't worth the upgrade.

The DRU-530A has 2MB cache.

You may be correct, I was going by the specs posted here:

i think TDK's are rebadged NECs. but i don't even think NEC has the 8x burners yet. Maybe im wrong.
