I heard that these use proprietary memory sticks and that the DVD movies are only available on proprietary Sony devices. Does anyone know if this is true?

No, it plays regular DVDs and CDs. You can also use Playstation memory cards.

You are evil! ;)

Anyone in CA got theirs yet?
I know some people in FL got theirs on Wed so I figure mine has to be more than half way across the country.

You are at Fatwallet too right?

I am in CA as well and I think we need to wait around just over a week to get ours if we are lucky, if not 2 weeks.

In regards to the question about proprietary discs..........

"A UMD (Universal Media Disc) is a new, proprietary, high-capacity optical medium enabling game software, full-motion video and other forms of digital entertainment content such as movies and music, to be stored. The newly developed UMD is the next-generation compact storage media and at only 60mm in diameter, can store up to 1.8GB of digital data, making it perfect for a portable entertainment player like the PSP system. UMD stores a broad range of digital entertainment content including games, music, movies, and more. "
