so how come nintendo, samsung, dell offer 0-dead pixel policies?
yeah samsung is probably offering sony discounts for dead pixel lcds. samsung is on top of lcd technology and I doubt dead pixels would be THAT common on their screens. the screens sony uses probably have dreadful response time (like 40ms.) too. it's definitely not a demonstration of recent lcd technology. not ALL lcds are like this people, so don't be misled.
everything in my house thats made by sony sucks and i'm never buying anything from them again. a sony vcr burnt up, a sony CRT was screwed up, sony dvd drive died, and i've had no sony products that haven't broken.
so many people think sony is on top of things when the fact is that they are horrible in comparison to other brands.
It sounds like you should have stopped buying Sony products long time ago. Just to offer counter experience, I'll tell you mine. I own 3 Sony TVs. One is around 15 years old Trinitron still going strong that I use in my bedroom. Also own Sony VCR that's probably like 10 years old. No problem. I also own Sony CRT monitor, 2 digicams, 2 cam recorders, countless Walkmans, original launch PS1, PS2, and now PSP. All are working fine and are excellent. (knock on wood)
Sony QA and technology isn't what it was a decade ago but their products are still excellent but overpriced. They're no longer the leader in this digital age due to their holding on to "superior" old tech like Trinitron too long but their engineering is still quite good. Sony today is clash of culture between their old engineering group that defined Sony of old and today's content business of media. Sony now makes huge chunk of profit from their movies, music, and games division.
You do realize Sony is one of the co-inventors of the DVD media technology along with Philips, Matshusita, and Toshiba and gets cut of every DVD player and disc sold. Better not buy any DVDs or you're supporting Sony.
EDIT: Also if you think PSP LCD screen is poor and not demonstration of LCD technology, show me better small screen in mass market consumer electronic product. Which you can't because it doesn't exist. You can say all the bad things you want about Sony but you have to give them props for intergrating the slickest and the best looking small LCD screen on a portable device ever. The 4.3 WS LCD is the highlight of PSP.
