Sony PSP Has 2.5 Hour Battery Life

I love my GBA SP a lot, but I can only play SNES ports for so long. and the design of the DS looks really painful to the hands (one of my big complaints about SP).

Nintendo's major problem has always been a lack of quality third party games (in addition to a total reliance on their old franchises).

If Sony's new deal with IBM works out, I think we'll only see an increasing number of quality PSx games.

The PSP will definitely play movies, the initial specs stated that one of the two processors was strictly for video.

I'm excited about the possiblilities of using the memory stick duo to import media to the PSP. Unfortunately it is proprietary piece of crap memory stick but, it is better than nothing.

I just want to know if the UMD's are writable, however with the addition of the memory stick duo it doesn't look likely.

Yes, think of the screen resolution. DVD quality can be had on a small screen by shrinking the DVD resolution way down. Then it would fit...

Looks good to me imo.

I'll probably get one when the price gets down.

Will be good to while away the time on my daily commute.

2.5hrs of constant gaming is quite a bit. If you want more just get the extra battery pack. The battery will add size and is optional which I always prefer. I'd rather take a smaller size and a battery pack to add the hrs and have the slim factor instead of a thicker form factor and more gaming time. But of course more gaming time and a slim form factor is always best, but that isn't going to happen anytime soon with the batteries we have now a days.

2.5 hrs of continuous playtime is long, BUT I for one don't want to be continuously looking for a place to charge. Look at it the same way you would look at a cell phone.

man!! i'm always too late for these threads to chime in on the WHAAAAAAAT? OKAAAAAAAAY~!!!

Yeah but a cell phone doesn't require much battery and isn't in use all the time. Using it non stop on a call KILLS THE BATTERY well short of the standby time.

If it had a 5hr battery life or more it would have a HUGE battery and would be very thick. I think people would not like that. Also the battery would have to be pricey.

Yes, you might not play it for 2.5 hours straight, but imagine if you had a 10 hour car ride and on the PSP to entertain you...

What are you gonna for for 3/4 of it?

Most cell phones have a talk-time (TALK TIME.. not standby) of 6-7 hours. I would not buy a cell phone that had only 2.5 hours of talk time. In addition, where's the huge/super heavy/unlikable battery in the GBA? AND take a look at the price tag. 10 HOURS of continuous playing. I think you need to do some research.

Whats wrong with that? Thats enough time for a full movie, and 10 hours of gaming without the movie. The ipod does roughly 10 hours of music, the GBA does about that as well. 😕

Wow... gaming without video... that'll be fun. (unless I'm reading the article wrong)

Its built-in lithium-ion battery will have a life of 2.5 hours with video and 10 hours if used for audio playback only.

So playing games on there would be no less then 2.5 hours and no more then 10 hours.

what a terd, ever hear of a dc car adapter? i'm sure it'll be one of the many accessories available

Shows you how much behind Sony is in portables compared to Nintendo.

Look at DS, it has two 3' screens, N64 like power, and 10 hours.

And no, I am not a Nintendo fanboy, but I am sure Sony will make strides in their next portable project.

uhmm... i dunno about that.
i've had about 5 or 6 cell phones.

nokia is the best, gets me about 4 hours straight talk time (8260, 8265, 8290). maybe because they were the oldest and had the least "features" (color lcd)
samsung gets me about 3.5 hours. not bad considering it has a beautiful LCD (e715, e105).
and motorola was the absolute worst, around 2 hours, maybe 2.5 hours. the phone was nothing special and the screen displayed just the basics (V60).

the DS looks awfully awkward and 2 LCD's can't be friendly with battery life.
the sony looks too huge to be portable. that's not fitting in a pocket without cracking.

Yeah but that quickly drops to 2-3hrs after a lot of usage. My T68 has great talk time and standby at the start. But after 2yrs it is much much less. The talk time is still alright imo.

The GBA is MUCH less powerful thent he PSP and the screen is vastly different quality and size. The PSP has a 4.3inch screen it also has to power a wireless card and to spin the UMD.

If it was solid state the games would be much smaller but that would save a lot of power though.

The two 3" screens on the DS don't impress me. I'd rather one big screen then 2 smaller ones. But then I've not really liked any GBA games but some of the N64 stuff was cool.

It's likely very close to 2.5 hours though. With gaming, you need to power the drive, all the chips, and the screen; it could be more draining than even movie decoding.

Did you actually read what I wrote?

The DS will have 10 hour battery life even with 2 LCDs.
