Dude, WTF! I was just about to drop some coins on the new PSP 3000. Read about the problem on some forums a couple days ago, but today engadgets got response from SCE and were told it's not a problem and they have no plans to fix it?!

Sony "looking into" PSP-3000 screen interlacing problems

Ruh roh. Seems that swanky new LCD on Sony's PSP-3000 could be garnering more complaints than anything else. If you'll recall, the aforesaid system was touted as having a brighter, better screen than the PSP-2000, but now the PlayStation forums are filling up with irate PSP-3000 buyers who are experiencing unexplained scanlines and totally peculiar interlacing problems. As you can see above, the 3000's screen looks noticeably worse than that of the 2000, and while we always hope that these issues are contained, we have at least one Engadget staffer and a Joystiq comrade who can attest to this being real. SCEA has been contacted and is currently "looking into" the matter -- we won't dare say that r-word just yet, but this doesn't look particularly good on the surface. We'll keep you posted.

[Via Joystiq]

Update: A Japanese Sony Computer Entertainment representative has informed us that the interlacing-like lines are just "features" of the new LCD, and currently, there are no plans to fix it with a future software update since it is in the hardware.

I hate to jump to conclusions but it seems very Sony-like to say that something is going to be better when in fact it's just going to save them money =/

I am really surprised sony is even still around. All they make is shit on every level. And before you all jump on me about BR and the PS3 being "awesome dude" spare me. They have yet to make an excellent must get a PS3 game IMO. The PS2 is still saving sony's ass, it's their only real money maker.

I predict that this will turn into a thread about the RRoD

(I'm really not predicting that it will happen, but rather hoping to avoid it by pre-emptively making anyone who brings it up look foolish :p )

And yet, I have a PS3 for Blu-Ray (& games & HTPC), and do not have an 360 as there are no excellent "must get a 360" games. ;)

Whats a 360??????? :D

Hey, im no MS fanboi, I just really cant believe sony is even around. I would jump all over a PS3 if it was 300 or less just for BR, but its not so I dont have one. Upscaled DVDs for me until standalones or PS3s are much cheaper. Hell, I may just buy a PC BR drive and just connect it to my HDTV via HDMI.

Scanlines would piss me off like a mother. That's probably a power-saving feature.

Metal Gear Solid 4 (PERIOD).

Although I do agree that they aren't doing great things. But then, aside from XBOX Live itself, everything from all three current generation consoles is mediocre.

Yeah, I mean it's not like they recently pulled all copies of one of their bigger new games for the PS3, wasting money on printing costs just to make sure they don't offend anybody. Selfish bastards

Ok, now to piss off the Wii folks. Its not next-gen. Its a repackaged gamecube with a new kind of controller. There. I said it. :)

BTW, I played MGS4 at my buddies. Not my thing. I still consider 1 and 2 as superior if inferior graphically. :)

Disappointing, I'd almost talked myself into getting the Ratchet & Clank bundle for a new toy. No PSP, no Jasper 360, no fair :(

At least I have piles of other games to play, and Fallout 3 coming next week.

(PS3 80GB) $399 - $150 = $249 < $300, so when are you getting one?

Dude... think about it this way. Angry nerds versus irate Muslims ready to jihad your ass... I think I know who I'd appease! :p

Get a PSP2000 instead. Personally, I like my fat PSP as it's easier to hack.

Why the hell would I want another credit card and even more debt???? Anyway, I already have a Chase card so I don't want/need another. I owe enough already. :)

??? So if it was $250 out right, would you pay cash or put it on your Chase card? Either way, the deal is same as cash. It is actually better than cash. You get 12 months to pay it off with no penalty (interest).

You said under $300 and you'd buy it. I think you are running out of excuses. ;)

Yes, I would pay cash. Opening up a CC from a bank I already have a card with is dumb. Looks bad on your credit report. I already have 3 CCs and dont need a fourth. And how is paying with a CC better than cash or debit card, which comes directly from my bank account?

CCs in general give you a 30 day grace period where you pay no interest if you pay it off at the end of the month. Your basically using the banks money for free. Why pay cash when you can earn interest on it for another month? However, I wasn't talking about CCs in general. I was talking about the Sony offer which is basically a 12 month interest free loan. Whereas if you carry a balance on your other cards, you're going to be charged interest if you put a PS3 on it. And even if you could get a PS3 for $250 right off the shelf, it would cost you more in the long run (after interest accumulated) if you put it on your current CC. So yeah, I'd say the offer is better than paying cash and better than paying with your current credit card if you are "currently in debt."

And I'm not saying KEEP the card. Get the PS3 and close the card after you pay for it. As for your credit report, it would show up as a small blip which would be considered insignificant.

Listen, if you can't afford a PS3 even at $250 right now, that is completely understandable. But let's stop making excuses.

Unless you are financially irresponsible, CC is much better than paying cash. I get 3% cash back, deferred payment until statement date, and assurance that if any transaction goes wrong, I will be reimbursed for any damages. I pay off the balances every month, so I don't pay a penny for interest.

Please. Sony, just like any smart corporation would do, pulled those copies in the name of PR, not because some executive felt bad about it.

Maybe I'm just bitter from the Dreamcast days of how the PS2 was going to have flowing indivual strands of hair and all of that trash, but it seems to me that Sony has the worst track record of hyping up their products when they know it's a lie.

Them and Peter Molyneux (sp?), of course.

My cards also double the manufacturer warranty up to an extra year. If the Sony/Chase CC does that you get a 2-year warranty on the PS3 instead of 1.
