I saw this in person, pretty hot sh!t; if it looks like it did @ CES. I'm still the skeptic tho and I'll believe it when I see it

That actually looks like a trailer movie only but that is damn good, I wonder where we can find the rest. Snake is also getting really old. 🙁
 
If SONY waits *that* long...............(And I'm wondering where the market entry/exit model is staged for putting PS2 obsolete as that should be a VERY careful move).............I'm guessing that Xbox360 will be at a definite disadvantage from a graphics standpoint this go 'round.


I dunno......I'm only guessing, but that'd give Sony a good 6 mos to see what 360 is capable of b4 they go to final on their PS3.

Interestingly, the PS3 boomerang controller was a no-show at CES. They had the PS3 mockup consoles sitting behind glass enclosures as usual but the controller was not there at all.

It was there, they just put a sign in front of it saying "Conceptual Design"
Maybe they took it down for part of the show?

Hmmm. One of the gaming blog websites (can't remember which one now) had pictures of the controller missing and said that they hadn't seen one while at CES.
 
Personally, I do believe that's the actual game engine rendering the cutscene. But we all know that in-game graphics/physics/AI/etc can be very different. So, I think I'll hold my enthusiasm for a bit longer. 😉

But it does look spectacular, and I have little doubt that games on the PS3 will look spectacular. 😉

Keep in mind that Sony has always released their console in Japan first, and then 6-8 months later it lands on N. American shores. And since they had nothing playable at CES, or any significant official announcements, I am pretty skeptical that I'll be able to purchase a PS3 in 2006.
 
There was some video of MGS4 that showed snake and was all real time. It was pretty impressive. You could see the guy changing all of the lighting, moving Snake's face, etc. It was definitely real time and it was DEFINITELY very impressive.

But then look back at the old man's facial animations that sony showed the PS2 was capable of before it was released. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? It was the old man's face that showed a great level of detail and showed off how much emotion a person could show with the PS2 engine. It was also very impressive. It was the first showings I believe of the Emotion engine and was very promising.

Then we got the actual PS2 and the PS2, to this date, is not even NEARLY capable of producing graphics that were as good as the old man's face demo we got of the Emotion engine that the PS2 was capable of.

My point ... take ALL of sony's demos/promises/specs with a huge grain of salt. remember, there still isn't even 1 playable demo for the PS3. the system is far from in its final stages IMO. I know a lot of people on here are tech guys and know that sony overhypes everything, but the large mass market is falling for all this crap when the PS3 most likely won't be able to produce stuff that looks nearly as good as the MGS4 demo I saw.

but if it does, hats off to sony. I just am not falling for the PS3 hype this time around. I did with PS2 and was soley disapointed with that system for its first 6 months or so ...

So sick of game companies using cutscene crap to sell games. And I'm even more sick of idiots buying into them. We want GAMEPLAY footage, you tards. Nothing else matters.

its all marketting ... and its working. as far as the public still knows (and many consumers still believe this), the PS2 is going to be released in the spring/summer of '06 in the states. Sony still has yet to announce that it is going to be delayed and not come out then, but everyone who has a brain knows this.

it's helping them at t his point by not mentiong this because there are a lot of people who didnt get an xbox360 because they are "waiting a couple months to get the PS3 instead". a lot of these people think that the PS2 still is going to come out around march or april, or as late as June. Thats only waiting 6 months from the 360 release to the ps3 release in their eyes.

however, if these same people who are saying "im waiting for ps3 to come out and not getting a 360 now" knew in reality that this wait would be 1-2 years, then they may not wait around that long for the ps3, getting a 360, giving MS their share of the market.

so as usual with sony ... its all about their lying marketing schemes.

EDIT: and when sony officially announces the delay of the PS3, these same people are going to think "oh its only 6 more months to wait, ive already waited 6 months, i can do 6 more" so its going to work in sony's plan.

Why? By the time the PS3 comes out, the 360 will be in its 2nd or 3rd generation of games and they will look just as good if not better. Just look at Gears of War, Fight Night, etc. Meanwhile, I don't expect to see games like MGS or Gran Turismo ready for the PS3 at launch.

In terms of power, the PS3 and the 360 are going to be evenly matched. Its going to be up to which platform that can get developers to get the most out of their machines.

Yes, and many dev. have already said 360 is WAY easier to program for than the ps3, so MS has that in their favor, and ase you stated by the time PS3 does come out, 360 games will be in its 2nd or 3rd gen of games and will look A LOT better than they currently do. Just look at a game such as riddick on xbox compared to the release games.

I'm thinking that Splinter Cell: Double Agent on 360 will have comparable graphics to this. After seeing what Ubi Soft did with the old xbox hardware I'm hoping the next version on the 360 will look great.

Considering what they are doing with the new splinter cell on the first xbox, I would agree with you. Pics of the new SC on normal old xbox look incredible for that system.
