I was googling for PS3 and Netflix and some thread mentioned a 1 - 2 dollar surcharge for Blu-Ray?

Is this true, or in the works?

Also, can I download Blu-Ray or regular dvds from Netflix to my PS3?

They're testing it right now to see how it flies. Which kind of sucks, because they're basically saying it's free for everyone else, but we want to charge you extra money for giggles.

Seems like a bad idea. If they did it from the beginning, fine. But now that Blu-ray is becoming more widespread, it won't be long before we're at the point when they should remove the surcharge again. Blu-ray discs cost more, but they should also need to be replaced less frequently.

They're pretty good. And Blu-ray is excellent. The level of detail is amazing.

PQ depends on the title, some are amazing, but others look like subDVD quality (see AC/DC Live at live at Donington). The format is excellent, the studios sometime skip on quality production / remastering.

Would a multi-disc release (e.g. boxed season of a tv show) count as one rental, or total number of discs in the boxed set?

And for that instant streaming onto a pc: is there a Netflix software player you download from the website? Is it PC only, or do they also have a Mac OS X version? (I've got 512/256 cable modem, so is streaming even possibly without constant stutter?)

edit: Netflix said 1) mutli-disc sets are sent out and charged 1 disc at a time, 2) $2 surcharge for Blu-Ray, and 3) 1.2 recommended for minimal stuttering and not blurry picture.

No
total number of discs in the boxed set?
Each disc = individual rental

It plays via Internet Explorer and Windows Media Player.
Is it PC only
Windows PC, it does not work on Linux.
do they also have a Mac OS X version?
No

It does a good job with buffering and has "dynamic quality" which throttles back the quality depending on your bandwidth.

You might also be interested in a Roku box.
