hi I'm interested in some of the sony clié models (SL10 and SJ30) and I was wondering how the double (quadruple depends on how u count) resolution works in the palm OS, do u get smoother fonts or do u just get more text on screen (the latter would be handy 😀) and how do they look, because they're only as big as other palms (even smaller) their pixels really are just 1/4th the size ..

thanks for any answers

Yup, you get both smoother font and more on screen. I'm comming off an old n760, and the screen resolution really does make a difference. Newer versions of DocsToGo (packaged with the palm), and Wordsmith really do take advantage of the higher resolution, making the letters look much cleaner and clearer than their pocketpc counterparts.

then another question, possibly the most eternal one u encountred, hehe

should I go for a 200 ? sony palm with 4bit grey OR a 300 ? palm 130 with colours (the main purpose of the PDA will be writing java code on it in class and taking it home to run there ...)

and offcourse agenda functions and adress books etc, (and playing games too 😀 how's the game support, I mean 4x amount of pixels, do they just emulate a regular palm pixel size ? (meaning each pixel consists of 4 pixels thus making the effective res 160x160 like a regular palm) also how fast do these pixels refresh, I mean, do they show ghosting etc (can get very annoying over time ..)

I have the Sony SJ-20 high resolution grey scale and I love it... i just got it two weeks ago. If you are just doing basic stuff with your PDA and text work, color won't really matter. If you think you will want to watch movies, edit pictures, play color games, etc. then color is definitely something to look into (the SJ-30 is very reasonably priced too). Once you go high res you'll never go back!

A hot deal I was able to get a few weeks ago on my SJ20 (not sure if it is still good tho)

thanks for the info, the good deal isnt for me tho, scince I'm in europe (and every single PDA is at least $100 more than overthere (sjitteh) and half of it aint even availabne (even more sjittier))

I've seen the supposed t415 grayscale model of the clie and the screen is so much harder to read than the color one. The fact that the lcd high contrast display actually has a white background makes a ton of difference.
