Sony: "Only *we* have true 1080p, not those imposters. By the way, launch title Resistance: Fall of Man will be 720p."

What he is saying is that Sony has been making 1080p a big deal this go around...so much so that even Microsoft had to chime in add their own 1080p support for the Xbox 360.

The problem (according to this developer) is that while it technically IS possible to 1080p on the PS3, for their application, it just isn't feasible to do so.

It's like bragging that your Ferrari 360 Modena can do 180 MPH, but neglecting to tell your buddies that your tires are only rated for 90 MPH maximum.

Bold, Italicized, and Underlined for emphasis. While my ferrari's tires are only rated for 90mph, the guy next door's ferrari's tires are rated at 500mph.

I believe the nicest factory tires are on the Bugatti Veyron which are rated at 200 something mph (270 maybe?) if I remember right. So no 500mph tires on your Ferrari, sorry...

I wish someone would "banday" randay.... Every time I mistakenly read one of his posts of useless sarcastic babble, I feel like I should be dying of cancer or something...

I don't see how this is any of Sony's fault. OH WAIT, SONY IS EVIL! FVCKING SONY! I HOPE YOU DIE AND BURN IN HELL!!!!1111oneoneelvelenvelenvelenvn

:disgust:

It's Sony's fault because 1080p on the PS3 is little more than a marketing bullet point. It can technically be done, but the advantages are far outweighed by the sacrifices. If they really were serious about doing 1080p right, it'd have twice the system and video memory, and a faster GPU.

And then twice the cost?

honestly-who crares until the dust is settled. I also heard sony has a bill shredder in the back of the ps3- if you want to give away more money, just put your money in the shredder!

lol, exactly. But the cell processor is a "supercomputer on a chip", isn't it? It's got NINE cores! If you can run 1080p on a PC with a single core CPU, you should be able to run 9720p on the PS3!

I'd be more impressed if it could do my taxes, wash my dishes, and walk my dog.

Marketing speak FTL.

MGS4 will almost definitely rule, FF13 will hopefully be most excellent. If they actually came out with a steering wheel that had a clutch and gearbox, and a well done GT5, I might even be compelled to pick it up. Show me something more than a few more pixels, and I'll be convinced. Force-feedback gear grinding misshifts and clutch dropping...now THAT would tickle my balls.

Until then, I'm just going to play with monkey balls, rolling them around on my Wii.

Damn, I need sleep.

So even if Sony were to offer a memory upgrade in the future (sounds unlikely), it would deal with the memory capacity issue, but not the fillrate/bandwidth issue. It'd still be slower, although more feasible.

The thing about memory expansions is people don't want to spend MORE money just to be able to play a few games, and developers don't want to make a game that requires an accessory that many customers don't have. So you get a chicken and egg scenario. That's why "unique" controllers often aren't very popular.

Totally agree, but a memory expansion is a bit different from a controller. You basically NEED a certain controller to play a newfangled game that requires it, but they could always just downrez for people who don't have the memory pack....it was pretty successful on the N64 cause any game the devs made for it would still be guaranteed to work on the stock system.

The PS3 is expensive enough as it is. I don't know of any expansion port on it, but the n64 had one from the start. I'd imagine Sony would rather sell you a whole new system with more memory, redesign it, and call it a revolution. I'd also be shocked if MS didnt come out with a 360 with HD-DVD built in eventually, but unless they figure out hybrid DVD/HD-DVD discs, developers would NEVER use it, and even then, for cutscenes at best.

Yeah that's a good point... I thought Perfect Dark only worked with the expansion though?

Edit: It seems you could only play multiplayer without it.

But anyway, you're right that they could write the games to run in 720p if the memory expansion (if one is possible) is not present.

There was no point of playing PD without the expansion pack, I don't think you were able to play the single player without the expansion pack. I doubt PS3 has an expansion slot though. Maybe you could send it into sony then have them add the memory.
