Sony: No Price Cut Announcement at Leipzig

Link - I would actually say not to expect any big announcements from Leipzig this week. Only Sony is giving a press conference out of the big 3. Nintendo and MS will be there but only on the floor...which is odd because Leipzig is the big show for Europe.

Sony Computer Entertainment has stated that it will not be announcing a hardware price cut at this week's Leipzig Games Convention.

"It's not going to happen," said Nick Caplin, spokesperson for Sony to Reuters.

"If you're coming for that you'll be disappointed," he added.

Didn't they tell their shareholders they're going to focus on profitability rather than volume? So I wouldn't expect them to drop the price until after MS does, if then.

Yep. But with the expected MS price cut, some were anticipating for Sony to make a move as well. Forgetting that making the 40GB PS3 into an 80GB PS3 for $399.99 with the DualShock controller was Sony's move.

I haven't seen an 80GB PS3 with DualShock for $399? I just got the 40GB with std SixAxis for $399 direct from the Sony online store. Is it buyers remorse time? 🙁

As for pricing, it sounds like Sony is going to wait out Microsoft for a few months, maybe even until late in the Christmas shopping season or more likely 2009.

Sony announced it at E3. It won't hit stores until September though.

Some Best Buys (in California) are already selling them.

Damn, and they aren't in the Sony online store? That is just wrong.

For pre-order due out Sept 1

PSP will probably get the PSP-3000 announcement. I wouldn't hold my breath on a price drop though.

I think it is funny how Sony announces "no price cuts" but will start shipping PS3's with 80 gb drives and Dual Shock controllers for $399. My recently purchased $399 PS3 had a standard six axis controller and a 40 gb drive. Aren't they speaking out of both sides of their mouth?

They announced the new version of the 80GB back at E3. Because of the upcoming 360 price cuts, some have been expecting Sony to follow up with another price cut. So, they aren't speaking out of both side of their mouth....they are just sticking to what they had already previously announced.

Technically yes, that follows.

what do you think they'll improve upon?

It's been under close wraps (the filing is under an NDA), but I think it's been speculated that they'll do something to fortify the wireless signal.

And of course they're taking actions to prevent homebrew. The latest slims are already immune to Pandora batteries.

I see, I don't really understand it.

I want to do lots of stuff with my psp and watch lots of cool youtube vids but am unsure how much of what they are doing is a hack and what is legit. The psp can do lots of things but I"m not sure what it can and can't do, legitimately.

how can messing with the battery mod the system..?

Using a specific kind of battery will boot the system into recovery mode (or something like that) which allows you to load up the custom firmware. It's the same method that an official repair center would use to fix a bricked system.

The PS3 is the only console I'm really interested so I hope there are good announcements at Leipzig (even if it's not a price cut but like another user said, it could still happen).

I was reading the wiki about how people downgrade to 1.5

I recently upgraded to 3.8 how do people downgrade it said you can't downgrade once you upgrade your firmware.

also how did people recover from the PSPtrojan?
