Sony MZ-R900DPC MD vs. Sony CD/MP3 player?

I'm trying to decide between the minidisc player (~270) or the new sony cd/mp3 (~150). Which would you choose?

The cd/mp3 combo will be far superior to the MD player/recorder in terms of cost and portablility provided that you already own a moderately fast burner.

Agreed, the simple fact that CD players can be no smaller than the circumference of a CD make them less portable than MD players. Battery life is also much better with MD players.

I'd say go for the MD player, even though it's almost twice the price, it's worth it. Very purdy player IMO 🙂

It does not "play" mp3s but records very quickly from your computer. More info here
Nevertheless, MDs are the way to go. CD Mp3 players give you more bang for the buck but sizewise, MDs are king. The R900 can record music from the PC via a USB to optical (i think?) adapter included but it will do so in real time. The NetMD records at SP (regular) at 4x, LP2 mode at 16x, and LP4 (lowest quality but still ok sorta) at 32x.

eyez,
I'm also sort of in the same boat as you. Right now, I'm leaning more towards a CD/MP3 player because it can play more content per disc. If I'm going off on a long journey, I'll want to be able to pack as little CDs as needed for the trip but still enjoy hours of music. With an MD, I'd have to carry a stack of discs (recorded at a reasonable quality) just to make up for content.

However, the tiny size of the MD player is still very enticing and sweet... so I'm still pondering the situation. I'm probably going to get one or the other by the end of the month.
