anyone had this problem with their mz-r55? it begins to record, and after a few secs it either thinks the battery is dead, or shows "toc edit" or "data save" and basically freezes there. it can play without a prob, though. maybe the recording head became demagnetized? if so, is there a cleaning kit i can buy that might help?

if no one here has had experience with this, can you point me to some good md bbs's?

many thanks to whoever replies. i'd like to see if there's a better solution than paying sony $120 for a repair on a md that's only a little more than a year old. and i'm definitely not shelling out for a new one, at least not until the mz-r900 shows its sweet face on us shores next march.

You can always break down and buy a stereo that records MDs and save the wear and tear on your portable MD player. That's what I did. Cheaper than buying a new MD player/recorder AND you get a nice stereo out of it. :) I know that doesn't help your recorder problem, but at least for the repair costs you'll get something more substantial.
