Welcome all ^^

My friend has this minidisc model and about two days ago all the sudden it didn't work anymore~ I thought it was a bad minidisc so i tried another one...and that doesn't work. Then I trid the mini disc in my friend's player and it worked fine.

Then we tried one his in her's and wa la....didn't work culprit--> the MD player

Now what I was wondering what could have caused it. According to her the worst was that it was in her backpack (she usually doesn't take electronics ot of her room) the other day because she was going somewhere and wanted to listen to some music...but at the same time she doesn't toss her things around crazily (including her backpack)

At the same time, its getting pretty hot here in So Cal (irvine) and I was wondering if that was the culprit...but then again none of my friend's electronics have crapped out so I doubt that...

Anyone have an idea? She got it in the summer~ does sony has a 90 day warranty, or a 1 year because I may try to see if she can send it in...

If anyone has any ideas i'd love ya :)

check sony's site . . . i think it's a year

i am a recent convert to MD . . . awesome format . . . UNbelievable BATTERY-LIFE . . . i just changed my 1st alkaline aa battery - after 70 hours!!!!.

Mine's the 'walkman' MD - built to take a fall from a 5-story building without a scratch . . . ;)

. . . would you believe a fall from 3 stories and just a few dents?

I have an older sony md, prolly had it 5 or 6 years now. ANyway, I prolly dropped it 30 times on concrete, tile, carpet, wood, asphalt, etc and besides a few dents, it works and looks like new :). I definitely don't think it was the ride in the back-pack that did it.

bump

any ideas?

And I trust her (well on top of it I like her a lot ;) but that doesn't deal with the situation :p ) in what she says because she really isn't one to harm electronics, much less take it out of her room unless there is a really good reason.

But do you think the heat could've done it? Still clueless as of now~

My Sony MD took a nasty bump that left a crack on the LCD.. but it still performed like a champ after that.

hrm....so i'm guessing there is a general consesus that just dieing out of nowhere (ie: never reading any discs) is perhaps a defect on part of the minidisc that occured, and not the end user?

You're outta luck . . if her Sony MD warranty is like mine its 90 days P&L and 1 year parts. ;)

You might try Sony tech support (i doubt that it is anything BUT a HW failure, but whatdoiknow) :p

what is the difference between parts and parts and labor?

They'll pay for the parts but not the labor? How much does labor run anyway?

ASK Sony

You will [likely] only get speculation here. :p

IMO she will be getting a new MD . . . labor is around $50-$100 an hour. :Q

hahahahah...nice suggestion ;)

Wow 50-100 an hour? Get me them on the phone and I'll start screaming at how shoddy they care for their customers, and i'm going to tell not only my friends, but my friends friends what happened and to avoid buying Sony in the future bla bla bla ;) And if they don't budge, well I'll hope its one of those "this call will be recorded for QA reasons" and whoever said no will get screwed

But seriously...that would be absolutely ridiculous if they did try to pull crap like that

But she won't get a new MD....she already uses it rarely as is~

and if they end up denying her it...well its a lesson that if you purchase anything greater than 100 dollars that electronic, those circuit city/best buy 20 dollar 2 year extended warranties are worth a damn

Sony hardware is typically of very good build quality. My own MD has taken quite a few bumps and abuse, still operates ok.
It either took a really nasty bump, or manufacturing defects by the sounds of things.

i forgot to mention . . .

IF your friend bought the MD with a PREMIUM credit card (eg visa GOLD) - the manufacturer's warrabty is AuTOmatically DOUbled.

That way there's SIX months P&L. Check the receipt.

THEN call Sony. :p
