Sony MDR-EX81's

Ordered some a little while back, still waiting for them, but in the mean time...

Those who have them, what do you think of 'em? The standard Sony headphones that came with my MP3 player were lacking in overall volume level, I'm hoping these ones will be "louder" and the bass won't cut out at max volume.

Pro's/Con's for these?

I had the 71s, they were good until one of the internal wires died. From what I read it happens a lot because the wires suck so much.

I have a pair. They're nowhere near as good as my Shure's (which are the cheapest of the Shure lines too), but they're MUCH Better than the EX51s. I only use the EX81s because the Shure's are a pain to use (putting on is somewhat more difficult... and the slightest tug pops them out).

Owned the 71's since Black Friday. only small problem noticed is that the connection is a lil loose like maybe twice.

sony earphones in general often suffer from poor connection problems, thus they don't last long (except my indestructable MDR-E888... but those retail for $50)

been using sony earphones for over 10 years. sounds ok, durability is a minus.

my 71s ALWAYS break, had 2 pairs, the sleeving is always bad and the connection will lose after a while

however, sound quality is excellent

I've owned the 51's and 71's, both had one ear go bad.

Good thing I knew it would happen, and bought 2 51's...

I have Sony MDR-V150s.

If I turn my volume up, I can use them as speakers. Plenty of bass, too. Does that answer your question?

Edit: Nevermind, I've got studio monitor headphones and you're getting earbuds. Carry on.

I love my E888s. I used to pamper all of my Sony earphones but my E888s I just toss them in my pocket with no problems at all. I've owned them for 3 years and they still sound amazing. Tons of bass and very good mid and high end.

Just showed up today. DAMN! Loud!

I'm in love. 🙂

I first thought the ear hooks would be hard plastic and really annoying to wear, but they're soft rubber and they flex right around the ear. The little interchangable ear pieces are awesome, fit great in the ears.

I have the 51s and the 71s. Same as the 81s. I've also tried the ones for SE K750/W800is and its the same as well.

Honestly, the headphones aren't that great. Half of the "Greatness" comes from the fact that it's in-ear. That said, I stil use mine cuz I dont' have money to upgrade to higher quality headphones....

I had diff sleeving on my 51 and 71. The 71 had the rubber-band like ones that stretch, but rip REALLY EASILY. My 51s are like plastic coated and have never ripped after 2 years of use. MY 71s ripped in like 3 months and after 6 months they have like 50% covered by scotch tape that when it wraps around my neck, it pokes me =(
