I can't say enough about these. They ended my year long quest for sound quality and comfort in a <100.00 headphone. I paid 106.00 for these a year ago, including shipping. A note about sound: these are not as sealed as the popular Sennheiser HD 280 which cause higher pressure in the cups and a less lifelike sound for that reason, that's my take anyway. The 7506 does allow ambient sound in so if you prefer true isolation look elsewhere. Personally, I need to hear what's happening around me. Be sure to check Amazon for reviews.

Excellent info, Pottedmeat. The wiki entry refers to a wider frequency response, more restrictive warranty and no gold plating. I didn't review the warranty bit, but for the 65.00 price tag it seems a more than fair trade off.

One of the BEST closed cans ever is the V6. I've owned mine for I think the 6th year and the only thing that really goes bad is the ear pad foam. Otherwise sound is pretty nice!

You can get replacement ear pads for probably $10-15.

The warranty is consideration-worthy. Supposedly if the MDR-V6 needs warranty replacement, Sony replaces it with some cheaper and crappier cans, while the MDR-7506 will be replaced by the same thing.

I've actually loved the V6 since I first discovered them in the early 90's, but never got around to buying a set. However, I'm considering them...

If these had a mic built in I would be happy. Why can't I find headphones that have mic's in them that are any good?

Here's my take on Headphones that have Mics built in. If one or both go bad you have something that is half working etc. I try to buy my components in separate pieces so if one thing hits the fan I'm not stuck with having to buy a WHOLE new headphone w. mic even though thou lets say the headphones work.

That's my take on combo periphs.
