Also, I've heard story's about blue lazer cd's that can hold extra data too, or are they the same thing. But this'll mean all new equipment all around, And I think dvd's already use similar technology, or some special lazers.

Those are actually pretty good prices considering you're getting 2x as much data on one media. And as for what will read them, well, as of now, it appears that the writer is the only thing that will read them. But if this turns out to be a good format, it may become a sort of 2nd-CD standard. Let's hope.
Are DVD-R's the ones that you can play in your set-top DVD player? I don't think there will be a format other than VCD that'll be popular for awhile until that technology is widely available, and cheap.
