just got this as a surprise xmas gift! i'm very happy, it looks to be sony's top of the line.

how does this TV rank among the other 52 in tv's on the market?

what are its strong points? weak points?
 
Great TV and it's one of the best if not THE best LCD HDTV out today. You should really enjoy it. The only weak point that TV has is motion blur. For movies it's great but for sports (fast moving action) or games, some people said it was so bad they returned it. BUT some people are more picky than others and you may not even notice it. On the good side, it has the best picture of any LCD out there. Great contrast and a very sharp image. All in all, that is about the best you get in LCD HDTVs today. The runner up would be the Samsung 71 series which is really neck and neck with the Sony, but the ever so slight edge in IQ goes to Sony.

And yeah, that is a FANTASTIC Christmas present. 🙂
 
I would agree with above. Its one of the top 3 LCDs you can buy for sure.

My nod goes to the 5271/5269FX from Samsung, but this TV is a close second behind those 2.

anyone have any cool tv stands/cabinets (dunno what theyre called) that they can recommend me? looking for a sleek look but not crazy expensive.
 
Among the elite as far as LCDs are concerned. Biggest downside to that set is the astronomically high price. However, since it was a gift, you don't really have to worry about that! Congrads!

$3395 is an astronomical price for a top of the line 52" LCD? 😕 The Samsung LN-T5271F sells for about the same price.
 
just got everything hooked up, HD cable + normal dvd player. i noticed some backlight bleeding through the 4 corners like on my viewsonic vx2025wm. nobody notices it unless i point it out to them tho...

picture quality is immaculate, even if i just have a normal dvd player, HD channels look great also.
