I never in my wildest dreams thought that OLEDs would come this quickly. Apparently, 60% of Sanyo's LCD production will shift to OLEDs by Spring of 2004! That's incredible. Finally, all of the high points of LCDs without all the lows!

The target market for OLED's for the next 2 or 3 years are small scale hand-held products like shavers, PDAs, cell phones, etc. Small OLED panels have been available for some time, and the article didn't mention the size and color scale of the panels Sanyo planned on fabbing. Don't expect desktop OLED's for another couple of years.

You'll see at least one more large technology evolution of LCD's before OLED's hit the mainstream desktop market. As far as I know, they're still trying to find cheap, reliable materials to be used for each sub pixel color.
