Sony/Intel Celeron-M aka Celeron with Banias/Dothan

I was shocked to learned that in Japan sony has released a laptop the U101 with a 600 MHZ Celeron-M and the TR2/E with the 800 Mhz Celeron-M. Why hasn't any one done any benchmarks to see how these chips do in terms of proformance. Oh and the Celeron-M has only half the Cache has the normal pentium-m. Also why hasn't any one released any laptops with these CPUs in America.

Also if you look at the roadmap. http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/2003/0806/ubiq_gif_1.gif it Doesn't show the special Celeron-M that sony has from intel, why is this.

Strange that the price difference is so minimal compared to the Pentium M version... I guess they are charging you Pentium M prices for that Banias Celeron.

ACtually if you noticed the Celeron verson is much cheaper than Pentium-M one. In Japan the Pentium-M TR2 is 2649, but he Celeron verson is only 2199/ So their is a price difference.

Gee that only came out like, what?Five, six months ago?I thought everyone knew about (and lusted after) those. They stoped makeing them two times already and they are currently out of production.
Rumor has it they will release a new model with the new Transmeta chip in mid december.Don't take my word for it tho.
I also heard that speed stepping is disabled on those CeleronMs.But im not too sure, too lazy to find the article.

Yep they sure did.
Too bad the North American version dosent get bluetooth.I guess we have been bad.

celeron-m with banias core isnt what someone would suspect.
Like someone already said, its cache is half of pentium-m, meaning about 512k.
That pairs it up to hmm.. a...pentium III i think.
since the clock speed is also rather low, the price is more than what its worth, even if it IS cheap. Think of comparing its price to the price of a Pentium-III chip.
Kind of hard to understand, but its logical i think.

Also when Dothan comes, out intel has already comfimed that the Celeron based on Dothan will also only be 512kb of L2 cache, not 1MB like some people think. Intel has no plans in the near future to release a celeron with 1MB of Cache.

they wouldnt have to release a celeron with 1MB of cache anyhow.
once dothan comes out, banias will still be in production, just cheaper.

Bluetooth doesn't seem to be really taking off in America. I wonder why.

Im not sure but manufacturers are slacking when it comes to includeing the chips in products. So basicly you can blame it on them. Its almost sad that HP/Compaq could almost be the leader in the area of tossing a bluetooth chip in all the products(@ least in north america).I mein the chip is like, what? $0.50 ?!?(no less!)
And its really hard to find in phones.I think phones are the key to makeing it a must have item.Without the chip in phones the average person will be like: WTF is bluetooth?I brush!!I floss!😉 Put it in all the phones and it will become a must have item: Omg I can check my email from my laptop without pulling out my phone!Hey guys check out my new cordless headset!
Well its a good thing im not a huge cell phone user, I would be pissed.
