I am looking for a 17" desktop replacement notebook that I can take with me when I travel. The main reason for this is to be able to play online poker when I travel. Because of this, my main criteria are screen size and resolution (need to have multiple tables fit on screen).
I am looking at 3 laptops with similar configurations: Dell Vostro 1700, HP DV9700T, and Sony AR Series.
Of the 3 Sony is the most most expensive (by about $450) and comes with a regular laptop keyboard, where as Dell and HP have separate numpad, which I think is nice. Sony claims aesthetic reasons, which I think are bull.
HP only offers max resolution of 1600x1050, whereas Dell and Sony go up to 1920x1200. Naturally larger resolution is nice, but I have to wonder whether 1920x1200 is not way too small on a 17" screen.
Besides those issues, I am really wondering about which company people prefer. I am leaning towards HP because outside of the screen issue, I seem to be able to get the best value there, and I like their aesthetics. Have never used any HP laptop though, so have to wonder about people's general experience with them.
EDIT: one final question. How do AMD's Turion mobile processors compare to Intel's T8000 and T9000 45nm parts both in terms of performance and power efficiency?
Thanks.
