Saw this online today, did a search for lowest price.... found $420 is the lowest on the internet.

CC has the best price so far. Reveiws on the HT package seems to be pretty good.

Ordered one for pick up later. Pretty good deal for bedroom or small living room setting.

I can't access circuitcity.com from work I keep getting an expired session message from cc is anyone else experiencing this? Maybe work has cc blocked? Can someone give me cc's IP number? Thanks.

Here's 5 positive reviews of this unit, looks pretty promising.

Does the DVD player have progressive scan output? If so, an awesome deal. If not, still tempting, as I don't have an HDTV to take advantage of the higher resolution of progressive scan yet.

How is $499.99 (CC list price) - $399.99 saving $200? I would have thought the hidden price would be $299.99.

<< Here's a USA Today review, doesn't seem to mention the DVD Player being progressive scan :( >>

Still so tempting. Right now I use either my PC or PS2 for DVD playback (neither has a surround sound setup), so this would be a big improvement in the sound department for sure. Must.....resist.... forget it, I'm in ;)

AFAIK, most Sony DVD players will play CDRs, VCDs, etc., bit not mp3s. I can't tell for sure because there is no model # for the DVD playback unit individually (I guess because of the biult-in receiver). I saw a review of the older model (S300), and it was mentionedthat it would not play mp3 discs, so my guess is no.

I must say that I have been rather impressed with the DAV series of all in one home theater packages. I have the big brother of the DAV-S500 (DAV-C700), and it sounds great. Granted these systems won't beat seperate component systems, but it is excelent for the price. The systems are great for small to meduim sized rooms. As for progressive scan out? No none of these systems support progressive scan yet. I am not too sure about the s500, but my C700 offers component video out, which is a great plus.

As far as Dolby Prologic 2 (analog 5.1 surround sound)? I wouldn't think that it matters much unless you own a Game Cube. Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS are where it's at (especially DTS), and they are both supported. Also these players support the new multi channel SACD's which sound amazing.

Oh, and if you buy the system before 9/30/2002 you can get 5 free DVD's direct from Sony. Check it out here(Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, 6th Day, Vertical Limit, Fools Rush In, and Random Hearts). They may not be great, but if you don't like em, then E-bay em.

Great deal!

<< Good read about it here.

<< What is ProLogic II? >>

>>

The article compares ProLogic II to Dolby Digital and DTS, but how does it compare with the original ProLogic?

I bought this system about 5 months ago and guess what: I returned it. Because of some Digital Millennium Act or something the DVD player will NOT play burned audio CDs at all. I found this really frustrating. It will play a normal CD you buy from the store though. Another frustrating feature is that you can't adjust the bass level at all. All that connects to the subwoofer is a little bitty wire from the unit. The sound quality is pretty nice in a small room, but when I took it to a wide open room the quality suffered. But what do you expect from a 400 dollar system.
