Hi,

I know that if i buy a sony 5.1 system that most of my money is going to the name. I'm just wondering does sony's theater systems get made w/ good qulity parts or cheap sh*t?

It depends on the model and product line. Their cheaper stuff gets pretty bad, but the high end stuff gets good reviews. You get what you pay for.

i refuse to buy any new sony car stereo equipment as i feel the quality has dramatically dropped. The older purple colored amps as well as their older speakers i'd pick up in a heartbeat.

As for home theater, we have a sony 5.1 receiver and had it for about a year before we had an internal short. The cost to fix it would have been higher than buying a newer model and replacing it. IMO...sony sucks.

Yeah, you pretty much get what you pay for, but you'd have to spend a lot of money to get a decent system from Sony. If I were looking at a HTIAB, I know I'd take a look at the new Samsung/Onkyo set. nice. 🙂

The only good Sony product is the PalmOs devices. There is actual inovation, not just a name.

You can get a Harman/Kardon reciever for like $200 bucks, and build your system over time.

Its all depends on certain models. Some of the products shine will some of the others do not even deserve to be considered purchasing.

Yeah, I didn't want to say this earlier, but quality wise most of their mainstream stuff is junk. I have a friend in Japan and sony products over there are called sony timebombs because after the warranty runs out, the stuff falls apart. The good thing about sony is that their technology is often compelling, but the quality isn't there. The said friend bought one of their Palm PDAs and although the technology is great, after one year, the pda is already disintegrating. I know from personal experience that in the 1980s, Sony products were very high quality products, but now I don't feel that is true anymore. All else equal, I'd prefer to not buy Sony products.

For the most part, Sony sucks nutt.

I wouldn't buy a 5.1 system by them, without a doubt. take a look at Yamaha or something which is considered to be in the same level, but IMHO is far better.
