Maybe the PS3 will be the all-in-one gaming, Tivo, media center PC with kickass online experience everyone was expecting from Xbox 360? All I know is *NOTHING* that Sony released at E3 backed this up, so they better have a few Aces up their sleeves.

Remember, the PS3 is not a gaming machine. Those are Ken's on words. ;)

and also remember that Sony has a reputation for claiming to do a lot of stuff w/their new systems that never ever happen ...

Hah. Yeah, I posted an E3 article comparison of the PS2 and the PS3. It was hilarious looking back at the PS2 article and see everything that was promised and not delivered along with the stuff they are promising for the PS3.

edit: Here it is

yea i remember reading that article.

"The PS2 will give gamers easy access to downloadeable music which they can store on the PS2 hard drive and have access to at any time."

that was my favorite :D

The games are what really matters, and PS3 already has a new MGS game coming out, which is IMO the best game franchise out there. They also have GTA coming out and a new FF game. All Xbox360 has is Halo3, and those that can't play CS play Halo, and I play CS.

Yes, MGS will be coming out. In 2007 sometime. Along with yet another FF game.

You need to go back and check the line-up if you're are thinking all the 360 has is Halo3.

Well they have Perfect Dark Zero and Gears of War, but nothing is known about those games, so at this point the PS3 has the better line up.

Ummm. Even less is known about those PS3 games. Sony showed a FF tech demo. They showed a MGS promo movie. I don't recall seeing anything from a GTA game.

PD Zero had a less than spectacular demo from an alpha build. Gears of War had a spectacular demo. Elder Scrolls III: Oblivion had a spectacular demo. There were a couple of others that I can't remember off the top of my head.

It's really ridiculous to say that the PS3 games blow the 360 games out the water when neither has a single game released yet.

The GTA game has been announced, just that they are making one, and Elder Scrolls is also comming out for PC, I'm not counting multi-platform titles

Edit: And yes, I did have xbox live, which was good, but I didn't use it that much, since I do all of my online gaming on the PC. I use consoles for off-line gaming.

I'm going to ignore all of the fanboy-ism and appreciate the console war that's going on between MS and Sony, BOTH systems are going to be ridiculously good and we all should just sit back and enjoy the fact that there's *good* competition going on :)

then you mine as well not count GTA, since that will come out for the XBox360 a few months later ... possibly MGS4 as well, since MGS2 substance made its way to the xbox.

Project Gotham Racing 2 + Xbox Live = Bliss

I absolutely loved that game. I must have put at least 500 hours into it.

I agree. I don't understand how ppl play fps with gamepads.

I actually prefer to play fps with a gamepad. The comfort alone is worth it to me. But now there's a company (can't remember their name) that's gonna manufacture gamepads with a trackball built in where the right thumbstick should be. That will be sweet for fpsing and rtsing no doubt!

From what was shown at E3, the PS3 is just a faster PS2.

Way to innovate Ken. This is just jealous talk here.

Sony has shown it can deliver with the PSX and PS2. Both had an amazing selection of great games. I have no reason to believe that the PS3 won't also have great games. The Sony hype machine is huge, but it is backed with a good history.

On the contrary, Sony proved that it could not deliver with the PS2. The hype for it was out of control and Sony never was able to back it up. It could not render Toy Story in real time, it didn't make "colors more vibrant" or "add emotion to characters". Its Emotion Engine was not a "supercomputer on a chip". In the end people saw the PS2 for what it really was- an overhyped console that was slightly underpowered compared to the competition.

All that hype did was fool the less informed segment of the population. And there's enough fools out there to keep a company like Sony in business. And now a new batch of fools are falling for the same crap all over again.

however PS2 does have some great games. God of War is unbelievable (although short) for PS2. but i definitely agree they shortsighted everyone as far as what it could actually deliver.

i'm still waiting to hear Rebasxer's response to my question as to whether or not he has xbox live ...

Don't get me wrong, I understand and completely agree that they overhype their machines to the point of lying. But they always deliver the best gaming selection out of any console. That is what I meant with backed with a good history. As a gamer, going to buy a console, games are my #1 priority and that is where the Playstation has always delivered.

i'll agree with that. however i haven't played my ps2 except God of War ever since I purchased xbox live last september. online console gaming is where the fun is at. after over half a year since Halo 2 was released, i still play that game pretty much daily on xbox live. i still play burnout 3 and tiger woods 2k5 just because i can play them on live as well.

One can't argue with the game selection of the PS2. I will say though that the XBox is going to have better games this time around. No one's afraid to jump on board and they all know MS is a player now. There are a few games on the PS2 I wouldn't mind playing but otherwise I'll stick with my box. :)

BTW pb - what's your Live gamertag?

See the thing is that Sony did not have rivals as strong as MS, Sony could feed gamers sh!t like they have with PS2, and everyone ate it and came back for more when PS2 was out, b/c it was the only viable thing on the market.

I don't think its going to work this time around with MS, Sonys old marketing ploys and lies are going to come back to them.

I watched both the XBox 360 and Sony PS3 E3 vids, Sonys presentation was horrid ... besides the game previews (that were movies) there really wasn't much to it ..... specs of the PS3 (wow my 10 year old sister can whip up a better Power Point than Sony did), the MS bashing (well we are better by this much, we might not have a working PS3, but we are better, we know) ... that was about it.

MS on the other hand put on a show, besides the game previews and such, they were able to show off how the actual system is going to work. MS showed you the bells and whistles rather than telling you about them, they also were able to show how 360 is going to be for a broader range of people, not just the die hard gamers.

Thats just about the marketing and how MS did vs Sony at E3.

I will admit that the current xbox is lacking titles, but then again Sony has a few years on MS, who knows what can happen. Also Square-Enix announced that FF XI is comming to 360, hopefully that means that SE is going to make more games for 360.

I say wait for MS to battle with Sony, we only stand to gain from it.

This just in...

Buying one console does not exclude you from buying the other.

Of course, this is assuming that when placed next to each other, the PS3 and XBox 360 will not turn themselves on and fight each other to the death inside your entertainment center. I guess we will have to wait for final hardware to know for sure.
