So I work for a computer/electronics recycler/repairer. I was looking at some of the stuff available for sale and found a couple of these sony GDM-W900's in B condition, for under 30 bucks each. One is listed as case scratched and permanent marker on case. the other is case scratched and minor crack on case.

These things are 24" 16:10 CRT's capable of 1920x1200 resolution. For comparison, the few stores that still have these have them at 500+, we have 8 others in A condition at 405.00 each. So for having some scratches(thats on the case, not on the screen) some permanent marker and maybe a minor crack, seems like a good deal. But these suckers are close to 100 pounds. think they would work as an additional TV?

You mean as an additional monitor? Trust me, if the screens are in good condiiton you'll soon be using one (or both :Q) as your main monitor. These will deliver the best overall image quality out of any monitor out there, bar none. At $30, they're an absolute steal.

Just don't try to drag one to a LAN party.

Just be sure to test them before you buy, esp if they're B condition. I've purchased refurbed 21" CRTs before and the image quality differs from monitor to monitor.

Hrm If its really the GDM-W900 model and NOT the GDM-FW900 then it wont be all that impressive , the W900's are not flatscreen (they have the bubble screens) and max out at 1920x1200 @ 75hz / .25mm vertical pitch , the FW900 maxes out at 2304X1440 @ 80hz / .23mm vertical pitch ,Plus they're flatscreen.

But hell even if it is the W900 for $30 I would say they're definately worth taking a look at anyhow.

I have the FW900 model and its an awesome monitor.

I guess I didn't look closely enough at the title. Yes, the FW900 is the one to get, but still... $30 for a 21" widescreen CRT? You can't go wrong as long as the screen is good.
