Hi,

Im lookin at upgrading to a 21" monitor in the next few weeks.
Im tending to lean on getting a Iiyama Vision Master Pro 510.
Was wondering if this be a worthy upgrade or should i just stick to the Sony's?
Trouble is this Iiyama 21" is getting better reviews than the Sony's? hmmm?

Ur help be much appreciated before i pluck out the plastic ;)

Difficult choice. Ya gotta see them up and running. Go, with your gut feeling which is telling you to go Iiyama I guess, hence the post! It's difficult changing from another manufacturer, particularly when you've had no problems your existing one (I guess). Better the devil ya know as they say.

I don't think you can go wrong with either one, but the Iiyama would be my choice. The after sales/customer support is unsurpassed IMO.

As they say on the NIKE adverts, 'Just do it'

thanx shagga :)

Trouble is that theres this Mitsubishi 2020u 21" which is looking better than even the might F500R! :(
This looks great and i dont mind paying the extra as ur monitor is the most used part of your system so cost is a no brainer in my book :D

I would really like to hear from someone who's got one of these mitsubishi's :)

Ya making it difficult now.

I agree though. Cost shouldn't come into it when buying a monitor as it's the component that you don't upgrade that often. I hope ya got room for that sucker when ya get it... :)

I tell ya what, I'm interested in what your final choice will be.

Good luck on ya choice, rather you than me. Muhaha!!!

PS

Tell you what though, make sure you take note of the graphics card they use when the reviews are posted, it could pay an important part in your final purchase.

Just so you know... The Iiyama 510, is a 22" monitor, with 20" visible. (as opposed to being 21" with 20" visible).

Just trying to help :)

thanx stefan :)

Im leaning on the Mitsubishi at the moment as the Iiyama is getting stellar reviews because of the cost/performance.
The Mitsubishi is coming across as the Matrox G400 of monitors, correct me if im wrong :)

I have just bought the Iiyama 22" 510 Pro , and i have to say it is a fabulous monitor . The resolution is great , and the clarity is amazing, however, it could be a little bit sharper, and the text is not perfect , in fact, my 17" CTX Pl7 was a bit sharper, but that was at 1024 x 768 , and I am running the Iiyama at 1600 x 1200 x 100hz , so it it hard to compare then .

I am using a Guillmeot Maxi Gamer Xentor 32 , ( TNT 2 Ultra ) , just incase you wanted to know what video card I was using .

heh, the Iiyama uses a Mitsubishi tube! doh ;)

One thing that i am wondering is what the anti-glare coating is like on the Iiyama? This is really important to me and is stellar on the Sony ive got and is mentioned as being stellar on the Mitsubishi.
How does the Iiyama compare in this department? Seeing as Iiyama may not use the Mitsubishi's own coating? hmmm?

Weve got a old Iiyama 21" at work and its coating is crap :(
Is the 510 the same? Sure hope not :(

Maybe just go with the Mitsubishi then. Doesnt the Mitsubishi also come with some USB ports in the back?

Stefan

I think ur right bud :)

I had a look at the photo of the 510 in anands review and the anti glare doesnt look too clever IMO.
At least the mitsubishi is renowned as having maybe the best anti-glare in the business :)

Ive gota cheap monitor in my living room and when u put lights on or the sun is about makes ur monitor look really tacky for viewing :(

I really don't think that the Iiyama's can beat the top end Sony's , I paid £700 for my Pro 510 , and a top Sony costs almost double that ( in the Uk ) at least . So it comes down to , you get what you pay for . . . .

Hi there.

I've seen all of the 3 monitors that you are looking at.

I curently own the Mitsubishi DP2020u and have had it about 7 months. BTW it's also 22" with 20" viewable.

The reason for my decision was based on the following.

Clarity of image.
It was aperature grill.
Has 20billion adjustments.
Adjustments can be made with your mouse (because of the usb) so you don't have to use the buttons on the monitor.
Has BNC and D-Sub connections
It has 2 upstream ports and 2 downstream, allowing you to hook up 2 computers to use 1 monitor, 1 keyboard, 1 mouse, 1 printer, etc. (anything usb)

Have not been disappointed yet. I've gone through 2 19" monitors, and 1 21" monitor. What a waste of money. Do it right the first time and then you won't ever have to think about what you missed out on.

I do recommend you get the Mitsubishi DP2040u. It came out a few months after I got mine. Same monitor, but it has a better dp, and it costs about the same. Unless you can get a DP2020u on clearance. You won't really beable to tell the difference. (I've seen both)

The only monitor that I have seen that looks better (not that much BTW) is sony's 21" top of the line F500r or something like that. It is a full $1000 more. I can not tell $1000 worth of difference between the two.

Hope this helps

T1-ML, I think its time for you to get a new video card. Your iiyama is not showing its best with the TNT2 ultra...

rockhard, there is one thing that the iiyama Vision Master Pro 510 is better at than the other two monitor. Check out the "video clock frequency" or "video bandwidth,"

iiyama Vision Master Pro 510 = 360MHz
Mitsubishi 2040u = 240MHz

I am not saying these numbers represent the overall quality of monitors, but higher frequency or bandwidth does give you higher refresh rates and resolutions.

Since iiyama uses Mitsubishi tubes, I won't be surprised if they come out with their own version of 2040u in the near future. He he, sorry to add in another factor to your already difficult buying decision! :)

Sorry for the late reply. My anniversary today so no puter 4 me :)

The anti glare is actually very good. My problem is my DDR video card. I'm not getting the sharpest picture in the world at the moment. I've got the bandwidth, got the resolutions, got the refresh rates, just not a card to show it's potential.

The anti glare is not bad by any means and should not deter you from pick Iiyama. But ya got ya work cut out. :)

Lo again ;)

This is just too much.
Lookin at the 24" wide screen Sony has me thinking of how much better my browsing experience would be with this badboy :D
Price is a tad OTT tho' - £1200 in the UK :(
I might just sit back a month or two and let my wallet swell a bit more :D For me a monitor is the most important part of my rig so want to get the absolute best within reason.
My eyesight aint what it used to be and i really appreciate a good quality monitor over a cheaper model :)

I wish there was a decent HDTV on the market that was up to the job of being used a monitor :(
