Sony-Ericsson T68i and T-Mobile: how sweet is this phone?

Okay, I'm about to ditch Sprint, and this T68i can be had for free (after MIR) from amazon.com. I have a Sanyo SCP-6000 now on Sprint, and I know this T68i is supposedly a sweet phone, but just how sweet is it?

Does anyone here have one and can vouch for the sweetness of it on the T-Mobile network? All input is appreciated! Thanks 🙂

Thanks for the response axiom! I get what you're saying about the joystick, since it would be better to just have a pad of some sort.

But what city/county do you live in? How is the actual T-Mobile service? Do you get "system busy" errors or are there a lot of dropped calls where you live? I have heard that the antenna on teh T68i is somewhat lacking. Do you also find this to be the case? And is text messaging easy on the T68i?

Thanks! 🙂

I have an Ericcson t60d, and it is a basic version of the t68. The reception is quite poor. If you use the phone where there is a lot of signal, you'll be fine. However, if you drive long distances where you need the best reception you can get, I'd go with a different phone. (My Nokia 7160 was much better.)

I live in Columbus, Ohio and get fantastic service with my T-Mobile. In my experience, only Nextel has better coverage, but my coverage beats out Cingular, Verizon, AT&T, Sprint easily. Tmobile customer service is also excellent. The wait times are at a minimum, if any exist at all. They are polite and it seems that the customer is always right.

I think Howard Forums has a reveiw somewhere in there. If not, check out their Tmobile forums and their Sony forums for full information.

BTW, the amazon.com deal is great - I just got a V66 for -$50.

do receptions vary by manufacturer or model? i have a nokia 3360 on cingular and it sucks imo at getting reception. it's either that or cingular needs more cell towers

Actually, I live in an area with seemingly pretty good reception (Irvine, CA, in Orange County), so I'm probably okay on that level. I might to go ahead and jump on this amazon.com deal... doh! 😛

It's both. My cousin showed me his Nokia and his Sony and they were both ATT and the Sony barely got a signal while the Nokia was in mid range. My wife's Samsung phone's reception sucks while my V60c is not bad but not as good as my old Nokia 8260.

In the NYC area, ATT reception sucks or is oversubscribed while Verizon's is pretty good. I was in Anaheim and couldn't get on the ATT network there for an hour because they were oversubscribed there too. All the guys using Verizon seemed to be able to get their calls through. Carrier footprint is something you always need to take into account.

I have the original T68m. I LOVE the phone. Small, awesome battery life, color screen, features out its ass, and I think the joystick is great. Now, I don't know about the T68i, but the T68m is built like a TANK. I throw it around, drop it, basically beat the living sh!t out of it, and it is fine. Great phone.

I have the t68i on AT&T & am very happy with it, it's slightly larger than a business card (I'm very size sensitive) reception is good, not great, but I haven't had any dropped calls either. The "thumbstick" sucks, too easy to do the wrong thing with it.

I'm about to order a data cable for it & download my MS Outlook data into it.

There's free software @ sonyericson's website

and there's a demo that's pretty cool t68i

Wife is on her 2nd generation of Motorola flip phones & the form factor just doesn't work for me.

Anyone using a Bluetooth headset? or a dongle yet?

Got the phone for AT&T, its a great phone, but I swear they need to upgrade the processor in this thing or something. It responds to your keypresses really slow. Screen is beautiful though.

Not to go off topic, but what does it mean to "unlock" a phone?
Unlocking a phone allows you to use GSM phones on different networks, i.e. AT&T, Cingular, or T-Mobile. Phones you buy from them are locked, so if you switch you have to unlock them. Involves resetting the WAP settings I think....

Oh, does anyone have the Motorola V70 by chance? That phone looks pretty interesting....
