Kinda

Sony Ericsson is promising to release versions of ALL Xperia phones with easily unlockable bootloaders, at least ones slated for 2011. This includes the Xperia Arc, Play, Neo, and Pro, but SE is quick to clarify – by far not all devices will be this open. In fact, there will be quite a few restrictions, not all of which are clear right now. For example, SIM-locked devices, i.e. devices locked to a specific carrier, will not come with an unlocked bootloader.

Still good news.

That's nice considering the trend, but the phones themselves are kind of bland.

yea its interesting, Sony makes some nice looking phones.

too bad they are limited to a few carriers

My understanding is the carrier branded versions would likely have locked bootloaders, while the SE branded ones(unsubsidized) would be open. It'd just be a matter of getting right SE phone for your carrier of choice.

Now, they just need to have bleeding edge hardware to go with it. :)

i've always loved SE hardware, my k750i is still going strong as a secondary travel phone.

this is great news for me since I only buy unlocked phones anyway.
