In the market for a 21" CRT. Is it worth the extra 150 to get the G520 over the E540. I doubt I will go over 1280 x 1024 or 1440 x 1280 resolution.
Is the color depth better on the G520?:D

I think it is worth the extra scratch. I have a G500 and was using an E500 recently and while it may be a matter adjustment, i like my monitor a lot better. The G series has the "restore" feature which will test the monitor and take it to factory calibrated color specs (after it has warmed up).

Here's a tip, check out www.merkortech.com I bought my G500 from them, which was one off a lease. It was manufactured late in 2000 and came with a one year parts and labor warranty for $315. Mine arrived in as new condition. It doesn't have the dual inputs or the USB hub of the newer models, but hey...

Yah, I agree, with that much real-estate, you may want to consider one that support higher resolutions. With the way video cards are progressing, running games in those resolutions is becoming a reality. (I can already run WC3 maxed at 1600x1280).

E540 has 1600x 1200

Maximum Resolution:
1920 x 1440

Recommended Resolution:
1600 x 1200 @85Hz

while G520 has

Maximum Resolution:
2048 x 1536 @ 75Hz

Recommended Resolution:
1880 x 1440 @ 85Hz

I would guess G520 has slightly higher frequency @1600x1200... but 85Hz for E540 is pretty good as well.
What resolusion does everyone run 21' at? 1600x1200 or higher ?

I'm running my G520 at 1600x1200x75hz right now. Dunno if that's the limit of the CRT or my Geforce3.

I dunno anything about the E540, but I sure like the G520.

I have an E540 and love it. I run it at 1152x864 @ 70 hertz for everyday use. I run 1600x1200 @85 for certain graphic projects. I run NOLF2 @ 1600x1200 and it looks terrific. However, 6months from now you will not regret spending the extra money for the one you know you really want.
