I don't think anyone is trying to say they lost the game, it's just bad wording. "Lost a future exclusive" == "Lost exclusivity to a future game." The latter is much more clear, but the former makes sense if you know what he's talking about, which we all do.

I'm one of those people who got the PS3 partially in anticipation of FF XIII. D'oh. At least the Blu-ray player still makes it worthwhile to have. I'm not sure which system I'll buy FF XIII for... I'm wondering how many discs it'll be on for the 360.

Easy choice is the PS3. What happens when your 360 RRoDs the day you get FFXIII for it? 😛 That's my reasoning for getting the PS3 version.

My 360 has RRoD'd twice so it isn't like I'm poking fun at it.

That was what I was implying - they lost exclusivity, not the game. Exclusive features/games are why you buy a particular console. Multi-platform releases are generally a wash.

And like I said, the PS3's best selling point (as a gaming device) has been the fact that it is reliable hardware. I think that was OK a few months into its release, but it's been 2 years now.

I seriously can't ration why someone would buy a PS3 now for a game with a "TBD - 2009" release date. MGS4 was a step in the right direction, and I'm sure June NPDs will reflect this, but even that was heavily delayed in the first place. If God of War or Gran Turismo come out before this time next year I will be amazed. But by then, the PS3 should be ~$300/350 or less, the XMB should have the features I've come to expect from a "next-gen" console, and the whole Home integration should be complete.

Thing is, that's where Sony should be today - 2 years after the console release.

So back to my original thought that they are consistently a year behind in games, price, and features.

Either way, I am continually trying to talk myself into getting one

Me too. The fact that they're just upping the current 40GB to 80 and thus losing BC may actually push me to get an 80GB soon so I get the BC.

As much as I think Sony are a bunch of douchebags for first touting PS2 BC when the console launched, then nerfing it, then removing it altogether, I really think that BC is an overrated feature and would not stop me from picking up a PS3 if there was anything at all coming that I was super excited about.

As someone who worked in a games store, Sony made the right choice (at least for their bottom line). Long after the 20 and 60 were discontinued and out of stock, people would come in still thinking that the 40 and 80 had 100% backwards compatability.

The average consumer isn't so good at keeping up with product updates. They also don't grasp the concept of removed features.

I bought my PS3 for a combination of the games, and it being a blu ray player for our new HDTV we got

I only have GT5, Burnout Paradise and GTA4 (have not touched it yet)

Yea! Great choice for the "bottom line"! Let's confuse our customers and mislead them into buying "new" versions with less features! Genius.

I am lost is Sony not adding a "newer" top of the line..like a 120gb with processor die shrinkage???

I heard a rumor of a 120gb/160gb version

So they will a full featured 80gb and strip down 80gb version????

No, they're going to have an 80gb stripped-down version... period. If anyone really wants a larger hard drive, they can add it themselves - it's easy.

IMHO, Microsoft will go down a similar route, and eventually phase out everything but the 60gb SKU. They'll keep the 120gb HDD on the market, of course.
