Sony DW-D18A DVD burner won't eject

Installed the DVD burner today and when I pushed the eject button, it made a strange churning sound and wouldn't open the tray. After I pushed it a few more times it still wouldn't open, but it didn't make the churning sound, but I can feel it trying to eject.

I DID NOT put a disc in the drive. It is an OEM drive. Do OEM drives come with something in the tray that could be stuck in there? I tried the whole "paperclip in the small hole" trick but it didn't do any good. RMA the darn thing or is there some other trick.
