Sony DSR-11 DV Deck: Play button doesn't work

All the other buttons work. When I try to press the play button nothing happens. When I push the onscreen play or record button in Premiere Pro, it doesn't move, either.

Would this be easy to fix myself, with a little direction?
 
If Premiere can't make the DVR play while it is connected to your computer, then it sounds like a problem with the playback components in the DVR and not just with the button on the camera. Is it still under warranty? If so, call Sony and have them fix it. If not, I would still call them and see if they have an authorized repair shop in your local area.
