Sony DSC-S85 or the Cannon PowerShot G2?

My mom's a realtor, and she wants a digital camera to take pictures and stuff. Which one should we get? The Sony DSC-S85 is $799 while the Cannon PowerShot G2 is $899. Both prices are in US. These prices were taken from the dell Home accessories page. Is the G2 worth the extra $100, which will turn into arond $160 difference in Canadian dollars.

I do realize that Dell U.S. will only ship within America, so I don't need to be reminded of that. My mom also wants to use this camera for recreational usage such as when we go on vacations and special occasions.

Btw, we probably will be waiting for another 15-20% off deal for the home accessories from Dell.

maybe its just me.. but i've heard good things about cannons, and not so good things about sony's. but when you pay that much money i think you're gonna be getting a good camera no matter what. ( if not, i'd be really upset.)...

personally, i use a nikon coolpix775 and it takes way better and higher quality pictures than i could ever possibly need. and its about half the price of those two.

I went with the Canon G2. this after much trolling on the Canon Forums on dpreview as well as playing with the units at the local Photo and Computer stores.

Decision based on ease of use, lense quality, canon flash hotshoe, (old speedlight laying around) and ultimately storage media. With 2-4mb per shot, compact flash media seemed to me the more economical choice. Being on an extended trip can fill a set of 256MB cards up right quick if the laptop is left at home, so the option of 512 cards or 1GB microdrive devices can come in handy.

I quite happy with it, and the significant other can use it like a point-and-shoot without any problems.

the canon is a nice camera...

i have a sony cybershot 505v... its quikry, but i like it...

i would recommend the canon, the prices you gave are retail prices, look online to see if there is some store which is reputable, and has a lower price.

also, if you can pricematch it in a retail store, do so... and buy a PRODUCT REPLACEMENT PLAN if there is one.
