Specs seem to be the same. Zipzoomfly has the DWD18A for 80 and the DRU700A for 126. What's so good about the 700a to cost almost $50 more. the 700 is retail as the 18 is just the bare drive.

Besides the faceplate, probably firmware difference.

Like what type of differences in the firmware would they have. I mean they either burn or they read. How much difference could there be?

I just talked with one of my vendors. He said that the DWD-18A is just the OEM version of the DRU-700A. The 18A comes with the drive and Nero software, while the 700A has interchangeable faceplates and much more software.

Thanks, that's what I was hoping.

Are you guys aware of that your Sony 18A drives are same as Lite-On 832s. They are sold under different brands, such as Sony and TEAC.

I flashed my 18A with 832S (SOHW-832S_VS0Ab) ROM, and now the drive became more reliable as well as is now capable of writng Dual Layer disks at 2.4X.
