Sony DRU500A experiences

I have only had the drive a few days, but I wanted to share my experiences thus far.

I was able to burn a data CD with Nero just fine.
I was able to burn a data DVD+RW with Nero just fine.
I am unable to burn a data DVD-RW with Nero or RecordNow. Both complain about the media being incompatible. I have emailed Sony.
I was able to burn a home movie on DVD+RW using Pinnacle Studio 8. Menus and everything work fine.
I am unable to burn a home movie on DVD-RW with Pinnacle Studio 8, but it did work with the Sonic software that came with the Sony. Studio 8 complains about the media not being compatible. For some reason the DVD+RW movie looks better than the DVD-RW movie. I need to experiment with this to find out why.

Media: Memorex DVD-RW, Memorex DVD+RW and Imation CD-R 16X.

the more I read about this drive, the more it seems like its more of a DVD+RW than a DVD-RW.

Anyone able to download the DLA software? All I get when I hit the download button is a message stating that there is no update to RecordNow.

DOH! Just saw the message on the web site about not being available.....it would be easier if they just had pictures for me....

Did you go online from the computer with the RecordNow software and Sony 500A loaded on it?
I was thinking that perhaps it was because I was trying to download it from a different computer (I don't surf with my video editing rig), that it wouldn't give me the update....

Are you on firmware 1.0d yet and what version of Nero? Nero 5.5.19.0 (not .1) with 1.0d burns the +RW. My current problem is that I could not get any of my +RW to play on my standalone player and other DVD-ROMs. CD+R works 100% though. I am using Sony, Verbatim, and Fuji media.

I downloaded the file DLA3.58 from the webside that I was directed to from the installation of the software. In trying to install DLA I recieved a dialog box stating that the file was corrupt and that it was unable to be installed and that i had to download the file from a different source. I have had no luck in finding a different source to download the file(DLA). I recieved the Sony unit for X-mas 2002 and it's a bummer knowing that my new toy will not operate like it is suppose to due to corrupt files from such a supposedly reputable supplier/manufacturer (Veritas).
