Which only shows that somehow, some way, the search is seemingly screwed up this time. It's been discussed *MANY* times! Excellent rankings/reports/ratings etc.

The AT search function is obviously broken now, or many pages of the Hot Deals forum has been archived off from the period I was checking it daily, when the several dozen variations of the special pricing for Sony's 710A kept coming up; their DVD-RW's are/were described as usually priced much higher than most other brands besides Pioneer and Plextor.

I edited my comment; I can't get Search to work tonight, either. Damn sorry, but I hadn't run into it being cantankerous like that before now.

The gist was that $85 was good, even better than the NEC 3500 for less, because you get software & support with the Sony, and nothing much with a NEC. Hope that helps. I ended up getting Plextor's 712, although I already have a dru 510A, a lot slower DVD-RW than the 710A, in an older PC of mine.

No comment on how good/bad the Sony is but just an FYI, the Sony is a "rebadged" Lite-On
Check out this thread at CD Freaks for more info on the newer drives. The 1s post has all the +\-'s on all the drives.
