Well I was able to leverage the whole compusa debacle at my local office depot. They had a DRU-500AX on clearance for $199, so they lowered it to $169 for me.

I'm left with the questions, what does the 510 do that the 500 does not?

Is this a decent price for this drive?

That's a great deal. It was rated one of the best DVD burners available a couple months ago. It does both R/RW formats, as well. It was something like $399 last time I checked!

Dont pass it up if you can get it at that price.

The only difference between the 500 and 510 is the 510 can burn +RW at 4X instead of 2X on the 500. Other than that they are the same.

I Have the 510 and it works flawlessly with DVD X Copy and X Copy Express:D

I thought there was a firmware update too allow the 500 to burn +RW at 4X?

That would probably be using the 510 firmware and not the 500 firmware so in a way it would be running it out of spec, overclocking? I haven't ever used OC'ing with cd burners, hehe.
