Sony makes very good quality voice recorders; I have an old ICD-50, and the record/playback quality is excellent. The difference between the standard play and long play is 2:1 on mine, so if the ICD-67 is the same, you only get 90 minutes instead of 180 when using standard play mode.
Difference is that the long play mode is not too shabby, compared to an Olympus which has a 2.7:1 compression for long play, and is a bit marginal sounding.

I'd get this if I didn't have too many already-

Link works fine for me.

I also have an old ICD-something which I picked up at the Sony outlet store. I keep looking for another one like it whenever I am at the outlet but they are either too expensive or too cheap (they have one which takes expensive button batteries, no thanks). This might not be a bad deal. I use mine all the time on mystery shopping, as it's a great size to just hold up to my mouth for taking notes inconspicuously. Any coupons for SmartBargains? They're on ebates for 6%.

Sounds like you got the same Sony ICD recorder I did, by any chance from the Sony outlet store at Woodbury Commons? Paid $30 for that one, and it has much less storage than this ICD-67.
It's been as reliable as a rock, and has never lost data or crashed, something I can't say about my old Uvex recorder, which is reliable only in the sense that it regularly lost all the messages when locking up from a low battery condition.
Got an Olympus VN-180 for the same price, but it's bigger and doesn't have the ability to break up messages the way the Sony did, and the LP mode sound quality is not as good as on the Sony.
It does have a good VOX implementation though, and a input jack for an external microphone, which I don't think the Sony offers. The Sony site doesn't seem to provide much in the way of details, such as what the record time in SP mode is or if it has date time stamping on the messages.
It's also nice that the Sony runs off a single AAA battery too, and it lasts a long time on it. Fast and slow playback speeds is good too.

Yup, bought at Woodbury Common and it's an ICD-30. I think it may have been even less than $30. Their prices on those fluctuate wildly depending on what they have and whether they are refurbished or returns or whatever. They have had one of the "bubble" models the last few times I have been there but it takes this button battery which I believe is very expensive. What was the ICD-67 take? I'd definitely buy a spare, if it were cheaper. I keep hoping I will walk into the outlet (which I don't get to very often) and find another bargain.

BTW I did find a store at Yahoo with the ICD-67 refurbished listed at $35, but they were sold out. Of course what is nice about this one is that it's brand new and comes with a one year warranty (which is doubled by many credit cards -- refurbished items do not get doubled).

Date/time stamping of messages would be VERY nice. Does the ICD-67 have this?

I bought the ICD-50, which has a bit more storage than the -30, but I think it might be the same otherwise.
The ICD-50 has date stamping, but no time stamping; I couldn't get much from the Sony website on the ICD-67 (apparently it's discontinued, since it's not on the main site listings for the voice recorders).

I would assume the ICD-67 is the same, and has date stamping as well, but maybe no time stamping.
The Sony bubble thing looked cute, but if it doesn't take AAA batteries, it'd be a minus to me-

This Sony ICD-67 DOES have date/time stamping. The other nice thing about it is that the 180 minutes is for the standard record mode, rather than the "LP" mode that other recorders use, so it's useable for the full record time.

Good find, Jokersmoker-

44 left after my order-

Thanks for posting this.. I wasn't going to order this, because it didn't seem like all that great of a price (good, but not great), but with date/time stamping is enough to get me to jump.

How did you see that there were 44 left? I do not see that.. is it on the order screen?

Friend just got one, and he confirmed it has it.

I will own two in about a week..... :)

This, after just having bought an Olympus recorder- if only this Sony had VOX and an external mic input, it would be perfect.
The VN-180 only records 67 minutes at SP mode, where this one records the full 180 in its standard mode. There doesn't seem to be an LP setting on it, according to my friend, so it just has one default quality mode, and it's way better than the LP mode on the Oly.

Well, I just did the usual AT trick of updating the qty to 500 units, and it then offers the available number of units, which was 48 before I ordered, and 44 after...

So it seems exact to me-

oh, before anyone questions my math, two of the four were for me, and the other two are for friends.

They have a fixed $6.95 shipping charge for multiple quantities, so we pooled the order to split the shipping.

<< They're on ebates for 6%. >>

Arrgh- just read Bill's note on ebates, too late. Call to try to cancel, and they said it was already in shipping- Poof, $12 :(

How does the date/time stamp work? Does it speak it or display it on the LCD? I saw the fixed shipping charge, too bad I can't think of anyone who would like one to split the cost. I was thinking of buying one for my father, but don't want to spend $50 on him :).

It displays it on the LCD when you play back the messages, same as on my Oly; no voice prompts.

One feature they took away from the Sony is the ability to break a message up into two, which my old Sony has. Don't know why they deleted it, but it's handy for instances such as if you have a recording with dead air at the beginning or end that you want to chop out. I could select a break point, and it breaks it up into two messages, so you can delete the garbage section.

Sorry to hear you missed out on ebates. I guess you really won't want to hear that they are part of the Microsoft Passport $20 per $100 rebate deal, either. I went in through ebates, then when I clicked on the Passport option and signed in, my ebates frame disappeared. I hope I still get my ebates! I decided to buy 2 of them after all since with shipping I am over $100 (the Passport deal did not say it excluded shipping) and will (in theory) get the $20 back, which makes the 2nd one cost $30 and worth getting. I'm sure I can always sell it to a fellow mystery shopper for $50.

Edit: wow, I just got notified that my purchase qualified for the MSN holiday reward and my balance is now $20. Woo hoo! I hope that ebates will show up!

Double arrrgh! Sounds like you've really maxed out this deal- good work!

That puts it at a point where it would be worth returning the order, even if I had to pay the shipping both ways.

The customer service rep did suggest I could refuse the shipment, since he couldn't cancel the order, but I didn't know what would happen if I did. Do you get charged for the shipping of $6.95 in that case?

If I did that, I'd guess I'd still be better off since I wouldn't have to pay for the return shipping.
What would you tell the UPS guy to refuse the shipment? Just that you're refusing the package, period? Never had to do it before, so I'm not sure. I might not even be around to refuse it anyway, since I have it going to a work address. Oh well..

You just tell the UPS guy that you changed your mind and don't want it. Even if they just leave it when you're not home, you can always bring it back to UPS and refuse it. And the great thing is you can still track it to make sure it got back to them ok.

I am pretty sure that they would not refund the $6.95 (but it doesn't hurt to ask) and you need to check and see if they have a restocking fee. But obviously since you bought 4 of them, the $40 you'd get back from MSN would probably be worth it.

Thanks for the info;

I'll give them a call and check into it-

I don't suppose AMEX Blue would take into account these ancillary discounts in their price guarantee, would they? The ebates and Passport discounts are not exactly advertised in print, as AMEX specifies..

Mine shipped today. Does anyone know where they are shipping from (I've never ordered from SB before, does everything ship from the KentuckY product returns address on their site)? UPS doesn't have the package info yet. If it's coming from there, I should have it in New York by the end of the week.

Update: UPS finally has it in their system. It's coming from Cincinnati, so it's 2 days to New York.

Got mine today-

Very nice design; and though it's not listed anywhere in the product descriptions, it does have time/date stamping of messages.

Sound quality is not quite as good as the comparable Olympus VN-180 on SP mode, but way better than the Oly in LP mode, which is the mode that gives the 180 min record time. With the Olympus on SP mode, it only has a 67 min record time, so this Sony effectively has a much longer usable record time.

Buttons are set up better also, it can be operated easily without looking at the unit, unlike the Oly, with its flush mounted front buttons.

Though they're currently out of stock now, they should have at least four back in stock soon-
