It has to be a quality 17" monitor. The Samsung is cheaper, followed by the LG and Sony being the most expensive. LG has good support here where I live, this Samsung monitor is new here, and the Sony ... well, it's a Sony.

Which one would you recommend?

Sony is by far the best monitor that I have ever seen! I have an E400 and it kicks a**! Crisp quality and great dot pitch. I would definately recommend a Sony, that is if you can afford it. :)

I find lower end sony's push poor refresh rates. If you were gonna go sony, a G model would be best (for price).

I have an LG795ft and it's beautiful. My best friend has a 700ift, and it's nice, and colors are a bit richer, but it's not as flat as the LG.

i have the E200 also

using 1280x1024 at 75Hz
not great but i have no problems with it

the LG 795FT/G200 has 1600x1200 at 75Hz
if you want that resolution at 75, get those

I own both LGs and Sonys ... one sucky 15" from LG, and a nice Trinitron Multiscan 17" from Sony (too bad it maxes out at 1280x1024@60hz). I love sony stuff, except for a terrible CD-R that I had. LG has good tecnology, their 17" Flatron has some very nice controls, and an USB hub as an extra. The Samsung is a mistery. Never seen one up close.

Are there any 17 inchers that do 1280x1024 @ 80Hz or better ?

The Samsung 700NF can run at 1280x1024@85Hz(89Hz max) with a max of 1600x1200@75Hz(76Hz max).

The 700IFT is pure 100% flat, I dont know how you can get flatter than that.

As I said before, I have to go with one of these three: LG, Samsung or Sony.

You can just tell me beforehand.

They're all good monitors, so I'll get the one thats the cheapest.

Good monitors I know they are. But I wan't to know differences in picture quality, colors, controls, refresh rates, user opinions. That's what I'm lookin for here.

There are some major difference:

Sony:
Aperture grille(virtually flat), bright, clean image. Two damper wires across the screen so you'll see two thin lines.

LG:
Modified shadow mask(pure flat), I havent seen these, but from what I heard, they're very good, probably not as bright as Sony, but no thin lines at all.

Samsung:
Conventional shadow mask(pure flat), sharp text, clear image quality, very small dot pitch(0.20mm) not as bright as Sony, no thin lines.
