Sony Clie PEG-S300 woes

Hi. I have the above Clie under XP Pro. Now I d/l the updated Palm Desktop from Sony, installed and everythign worked fine, Hotsunc and everything.

Now two days later, I go to hotsync, and it doesnt work. I got an error message one time that said that the device was faulty...hard to believe since it hasn't been out of the cradle since the last successful sync.

I uninstalled everything to do with the Clie (apart from AvantGo) from my desktop, restarted, then reinstalled, still no luck, the Clie reports that the serial port is in use by another device. It is a USB cradle, and has USB slected in HotSYnc options.

I dont know what to do now. Please help.
